My Parade

June

2021

Jay Harris
My Parade 6-1-21

I hit this world, with scream and a yell.
Gonna blaze a trail, change the world, you never can tell.
Me and my dreams, found a real fine wife. built the house, raised the kids, vowed all of our lives.
Then the drinking days, drove em all way , Soon enough learned to live for just one day.
Yea I got knocked down, lower than I’d been, but I knew right then I had to decide do I sink or swim.
Now theyr’e back in my life, and wer’e doing OK.
Ain’t no big thang, it was just a little rain on my parade.

Well I knew ole Joe, down at the grocery store
He would sack the bags , clean the aisles do as he was told
Then a man said hey, boy you eyeing my wife, he came for Joe to hurt him bad with a big ol knife.
Joe was all cut up, nothing he could do, all because he didn’t look much like me or you.
He knows it ain’t right , but hell he’s still gonna try. It’s hard for some to see the world through his eyes.
Says he’s better than most, he’s got it made in the shade.
Ain’t no big thang, it’s just a little rain on his parade.

We make plans to lives our lives, most the time it goes just right, but some days you get knocked down and you want to cry.
Most times wer’e just misunderstood, even when we see the good, the world has laid right our before our sleepy eyes.

Well they had a little bar, in the neighborhood
It wasn’t too much but they made it work doing all that they could.
Then the Covid came, shut em all down, not just them but every bar in this big ol town.
Then the sun came out. Was there ever a doubt. They looked up and smiled to God they were still around.

Now they’re doing alright, Better than OK. As a matter of fact compared to most they think they got it made.
It was a rocky time, man they were they afraid,
But no big thang , just a little rain on their parade.
No big thang , just a little rain on their parade.
No big thang, just a little rain on their parade.

Sunny Side of Gray

Maybe if I’d paid attention in geometry
I’d know what the lines and shapes of my life might mean
Maybe if I hadn’t tossed aside those red flags
I’d have fewer scars and I might not feel so sad
No way, no way, no way, no way to know

Maybe if I’d listened to the advice you gave
I’d have fewer regrets I plan on taking to my grave
Maybe if I hadn’t tried to fix everything all on my own
Wouldn’t have sunk so deep and felt so lost and alone
No way, no way, no way, no way to know… I believe

‘m gonna be okay
I’ll find a way
To build a new life out of clay
Devil’s not gonna get his way - No, not today
I draw a line in sand and I say
I’ll see me on the sunny side of gray.

Maybe if I’d signed up for some therapy
Maybe if I’d prayed harder down on both of my knees
Maybe if I had taken more time before deciding
Maybe I’d still be there and wearing your ring
No way, no way, no way to know…

Sitting here in the dark, I dig deep
Deciding what to throw away and what to keep
When pain and darkness is all I see, I can still plant my one tiny mustard seed..
and I believe…

‘m gonna be okay
I’ll find a way
To build a new life out of clay
Devil’s not gonna get his way - No, not today
I draw a line in sand and I say
I'll see me with pain behind me
I'll see me with support beside me
I'll see me grinning widely
I'll see me on the sunny side of gray

Down That White Line

Down That White Line
©️2021 Dave Kasprzak

I’ve spent a week in this one room roadside palace
Pitching my lines and rhymes to folks like you
Six long days I’m twelve miles south of Dallas
It’s the only thing I know how to do

Facing this mirror with my bloodshot eyes
Using my time up out here on the road
Knowing this life is only built on lies
Pushing the line just to make my show

Chorus
I’m going down that white line again
Living off my simple rhymes and friends
I’m going down that white line again
I’m burning my soul up till the end

White line demon keeps me on the go
Burning the oil until my lights can’t shine
Tennessee whiskey when I need to go slow
Choking on the line will be my demise

Bridge
I’d quit that line if I thought I could
But I never do the things I should

Repeat Chorus

I’ll be burning my soul…...to my end

V1
Walking home through the park today
I saw a flower stand along the way
Stopped to smell the roses and thought of you
Hope you like these as much as I do

V2
The ruby ones match the lips I wanna kiss
The pink ones are like your fingertips
A yellow one would look good in your hair
Like the one you wore to the Tennessee fair

Chorus 2X
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you
With your beautiful soul
And your heart of gold
(I’m falling in love again)

V3
Remember the day when we first met?
A storm blew through we didn’t expect
A rainbow appeared in the Nashville sky
It must have been a message for you and I

Chorus 2X
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you
With your beautiful soul
And your heart of gold

Bridge
Your ruby red lips
Your pink fingertips
Yellow rose in your hair

Chorus 2X
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you
With your beautiful soul
And your heart of gold

Tag
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you ….

Perfect Man

Dan DeHart
Perfect Man
Dan DeHart

Sometimes I wonder how to be a perfect man
Life would be easy, no cares or plans
A perfect man, it would appear
Would be free from all his fears
There'd be no worries for old Dan
If only I could be a perfect man
=====================
Chorus
I wanna sing like Elvis, look like George Strait
Act like Tom Cruise, do business like Bill Gates
Drive like Jeff Gordon, Golf like Tiger Woods
And Have that Jimmy Buffett state of mind
================
Being a perfect man might have it's appeal
Being famous, how good it would feel
Jealousy would soon appear
and many friends might disappear.
A perfect man would end up alone
His family might be long gone
=================
Chorus
===================
Bridge
a perfect man would not persevere
Would not be fun as it would appear
==========================
So I guess I'll just have to be me
Not perfect, that's for sure
And try to be happy just like I am
A perfect man would not persevere
A perfect man would not persevere

The Gold

THE GOLD

verse 1
I played on a lot of diamonds, when I was a younger man.
I wore cleats beneath my feet, a leather glove holding my hand.
We never won any trophies, except for just the one.
That golden cup that I held up in the sweet late summer sun.

chorus
It was Thompson at shortstop, Brunick at first.
At second, Bear Branaugh, at third it was Durst.
Gibbs, Ford, and Rogers, left, center, and right.
Squatting back of the plate, the great Nathan Albright.
And I was here in the middle, on this simple dirt mound,
Looking t’ward home from this high sacred ground,
With the crowd going wild. Oh, that feeling will never get old.
I have stood here before. This is where we won the gold.

verse 2
We used to play out in Rapid City, then we’d play back in Sioux Falls.
Yankton, Huron, and Mitchell – swinging bats and catching balls.
Down the highway in that school bus, not quite boys and not yet men.
Playing baseball in those days that I would love to live again.

chorus
bridge
Now the metal gate is rusted. The grass is overgrown.
The last runner has touched the bases. The last fast ball has been thrown.
But one memory is left here, and it will never die.
The day we played our best, we passed the test,
The day I held that trophy high!

I Can See

June

2021

Buddy Trotter

I revised the last two lines of V1, and some assorted words, based on the critiques. Thanks to all who commented
- -
Verse 1

I can see all the things you mean to me
I can see everything you want me to be
But ‘til you see that I need you to love me
I guess we’ll be no more than friends

Chorus 1

And I can see you and me, in a better place we’ll be
If you can just truly love me
And I can see you and me together for eternity
If you could realize, right now
That’s not what I can see

Instrumental solo

Verse 2

I can see you want to stay fancy free
And not hook up with someone like me
But it will take your love to get me on one knee
I can see all the ways the two of us could be one

Chorus 2

So can you see through me? I don’t want to be set free
My love is deep for you, and yours is not for me
And can you see, that we have to face reality
We have different views of what love should be
Right now, that’s what I see

I Didn't Lose You

June

2021

Eli Moore
I been trapped by the same four walls for quite a while
I been drinking like a drain but the damn stuff just won't do
I been writing gratitudes, looking for a smile
Well, I lost my job & my dad, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll, we all had something to lose
But I didn't lose you

I been talking about getting more time for 10 years now
I been sitting 'round 9 months wondering what the hell to do
I been thinking there's more than work and cash and winning
Cause I lost it all this year, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll and we all had something to lose
But I didn't lose you

In '99, we partied all night like the world could end
But in '21 we partied because it didn't
And cause I didn't lose you

I been dreaming about leaving it all for Santa Fe
Buy a little mud house with floors made of maple wood
Sit with the mountains and talk about our old life
And how I lost it all by choice, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll and we all had something to lose
This year took a toll on us all but we made it through
And I didn't lose you
And I didn't lose you

I been trapped by the same four walls for quite a while
I been drinking like a drain but the damn stuff just won't do

Sinner's Tree

June

2021

Andrew Fischer
When I die, bury me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
Cover my bones so they can sleep
There for all eternity

For god’s sake, forget this sinner’s soul

Please don’t say no prayer for me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
And don’t carve no stone for all to see
Because I won’t ever rest in peace

For god’s sake, forget this sinner’s soul

I never meant to do you wrong
Yes, I swear upon this song
If I ever caused you pain
I promise it will never happen again

[Instrumental]

For god’s sake, for god’s sake…

When I die, bury me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
Cover my bones so they can sleep
There for all eternity

ANGELS OF AMERICA

June

2021

Bob Pryor
( For our troops, past, the present, and the future )
“ANGELS OF AMERICA”

By Bob Pryor

They protect our country, so far away,
Gone from their families, so we can be safe,
Some never return, their time is gone,
We are so grateful, for what they have done,

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT

Their cost is great, but they never retreat,
Until their job is done, their task is complete,
Never forget who gave it all,
Those angels on our shoulders making sure we don't fall,
Letting us rest in comfort and peace, they stay on the lookout, never to sleep,

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT

Today, we honor those Americans,
Strong and brave,
We pray for their safe and swift return,
Never forget; never forget; never forget;

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT...
