Headed Home When The Son Goes Down
Lowell Adams and Big Dave Davenport
Intent of Song and what I want from a critique
This another in the series highway love songs Dave and I have C. The theme of these songs are songs is the seemingly paradoxical tension between wanderlust and the longing be back home with the ones you love. They are a composite of Dave's poems, and songs which have been primarily inspired by his wife Pat. ( and the highway) Given the fact they have been married about 50 years, Dave has amassed a vast library of songs which have been re-imagined through our mutual collaboration. We hope to be releasing an EP of these songs in the rear future.
Lyrics
Verse I.
Pulled my load out of Houston
Headed Toward Savannah town
Crossed that Sabine River
As the evening sun went down
And A sadness overtook me
Driving through the twilight alone (
Still Seven days and lonely 7 nights
Till I get this rig back home
Chorus
I wanna be headed home
When my sun goes down
headed toward that familiar place
Landing on hallowed ground
headed back to the ones I love
and where friends all gather round
Yeah, I wanna be headed home
when the evening sun is going down
Verse II
Its Five days back to Houston
Coming in from Allentown
Wondering why I chose this life
Always on the run
There’s something sad and lonely
About the restless way I roam
Guess I “m lookin for that city
That’s made of precious stones
Chorus
I wanna be headed home
When the sun goes down
headed toward that familiar place
Landing on hallowed ground
headed back to the ones I love
and where friends all gather round
Yeah, I wanna be headed home
when the sun is going down
Verse III
Sitting there at her bedside
They tell me that it won’t be long
She Kissed my cheek and said listen son
Do you hear that beautiful song?
Hate to be leaving you behind son
But there’s people gathered round
I hear them singin as clear as day
at my home beyond beyond sundown
Chorus
I wanna be headed home
When my sun goes down
headed toward that familiar place
Landing on hallowed ground
The sun looks like a candle
Compared to where bound
I’m gonna be headed home
when my sun goes down
La da da da da da dad da…da da
