Fly

FLY!
(still working on the arrangement and lyrics - no lead guitar, bass or crashing spacecraft yet :-) )
A cautionary tale of star crossed lovers...
Fly!
Fly away...
Fly!
Fly away...
Fly!
Fly away...
Fly!
Fly away...
(Verse)
There was a lonely girl
Out in a deep, dark night
And in that restless swirl
There was just one ray of light
She was a lovers young dream
He was a shooting star
It was a played out scene
In a jaded Shangri-La
He said I believe in one thing
To truly live before you die
You gotta spread your wings
And you have got to
(Chorus)
Fly...
You have got to Fly away (fly away)
Fly away!
Fly!
You have got to Fly away (fly away)
You gotta fly away
(Verse)
He couldn't leave her behind
And so he begged her not to stay
But there were stronger ties that bind
She could never fly away
Her eyes were a mesmerizing green
Deep pools to fall into
He whispered there'll be other dreams
I wanna spend this life with you
But in the dawns early light
She knew that life would be a lie
And when she realized
She said you have got to
(Chorus)
Fly...
You have got to Fly away (fly away)
Fly away!
Fly!
You have got to Fly away (fly away)
You gotta fly away...
(Bridge)
So they propelled him on his journey
Through a star filled Universe
Fueled by avarice and power
His dreams became a curse
He went soaring ever higher
Into the Stratosphere
Where he finally realized
It's cold, lonely and dark out here
(Verse)
It was a long hard fall
Into a burned out world
And in the wreckage of it all
Lay the lonely girl
She revived with a kiss
Like sleeping beauties do
Just a momentary bliss
before realities sideway skew
She said we're free of worldly things
Time to leave this life behind
Spread your angel wings
Together we will
Fly...
Fly away
Fly...
Fly away
I'm So Tired (Waiting For Rain)
October
John Taylor
2020
(another iPhone recording. I wrote and recorded more than a record's worth of material this past few weeks, but this is the one in the most need of critique. Thanks for your help!)
If you’re wondering where I’ve been to
I just came from my nation’s floor
Spent some time in small-town Kansas
Where rich was rich and poor was poor
I see you’ve nothing left to lose now
That you cut down our cherry tree
So put another on the fire
& tell me how it used to be
When the war’s hands were tied
& the lord’s on your side
Each may come in their own way
But I’m so tired of waiting for rain
If you’re wondering where I am well
You know I’ve nowhere else to go
I’m lying down with you my lamb but
I understand if you say no
I threw my heart into a window
‘cause I don’t know how to get through to you
You tell me I should love my neighbor
But strike one down every time I do
The public servant’s testifying
'cause his memory just went black
Says he feared for his own safety
That’s why he shot her in the back
& the last congressman
Won’t come past this way again
If you're wondering how it bleeds well
It won't be long 'till it won't stand
There's many nails this coffin needs
That's why I'm staying where I am
Shangri-la, you know I miss you
For now we must meet in disguise
My covered mouth means I can't kiss you
& so I smile with my eyes
'cause if that's how it's gonna be
you won't catch nothing from me
If you're wondering where I'm going
I'm headed to my shed to find
A broom to sweep the dirt of my people
& clean the mess you left behind
I know you'll be in your mind's heartland
Where mother watched her flowers bloom
You might blush, but I can see just
Why you'd run back to her womb
But you must look into your heart, man
& learn to use your power & wealth
Nobody does that on their lonesome
So I'll just make you do it myself
& as you look above
I look to the one I love
Trash Panda

Raymond Wyatt
2020
Trash Panda © Ray Wyatt 2020
Every night at midnight, underneath the moon
There’s a creature called ring-tailed American raccoon
At night he walks his tricky walk, if you should see him there
With little hands and burglars mask; just like a panda bear. Trash Panda!
Dangling from the power lines, skipping on your roof
Sneaking ‘neath the fences, he’s just looking for some food
Dancing down your alley way, he’s looking for a bite
He’s digging through your garbage cans every single night. Trash Panda!
C> Trash Panda ain’t no sinner.
Trash Panda ain’t no fool.
Trash Panda is a friend of mine, just looking for some food
No one knows just where he lives, no one know his name
He’s a dumpster diving bandit gone as quickly as he came. Trash Panda!
I can see most anything that goes on in the dark
Every cat up in a tree and every dog that barks
Every doggy door that’s open every flower pot
I’m creeping around the neighborhood - like it or not. Trash Panda!
See I’ve got three little kits back yonder in the brush
I’m taking them some rotten fruit before it turns to mush
I don’t mean to be begging, and I don’t mean to offend
But if you’ll have some table scraps, then we can be friends. Trash Panda!
C>
Hey there my brother may I ask a favor please?
I ain’t gonna bother you if you don’t bother me
It’s nice to get acquainted, but you know it’s getting late,
Just close the door, turn out the light, I’ll make my escape. Trash Panda!

Theres Still Christmas
October
Kari Loya
2020
Intro:
Hey, it’s been one helluva year, huh?
Well, wherever you are, whatever your age, your background, just remember… some years… are better than others…
J-J- J-January begins with hope.
By February we’re tryin’ to cope.
March and April ain’t on track.
May and June we’re wonderin’ how we’ll come back.
July Uh, oh.
August Dunno.
September brings strain.
October more pain.
By November we just wanna finish the year…
Chorus:
But there’s still Christmas
Yes there’s still Christmas
A candle, a song, a companion… that’s all you really need…
F-F-F-Friends and family worlds apart,
Bank accounts that are tearing out are heart,
To-do lists and crises that never seem to end.
Feels like swiggin’ life on the rocks.
We need another year just to breathe and de-tox.
How much longer we gonna keep tryin’ to pretend?
Chorus:
[BUV: And hannukuh! Even Ramadan’s not far away!]
Bridge: Instrumental
Chorus [would like to have kids chorus, too]
[BUV: We're wishing everyone a Happy New Year!]
let out the oars
October
Paul Boedeker
2020
Turning points in my life have always prompted (or forced) me to write. Here's a song about a major change
Let Out The Oars (Paul Boedeker)
V1.
Casual romance, midnight glory, morning’s only friend.
Spotlight heat flash, same old story, left alone again.
It’s another day rising, hear it ringing in my ear.
Really not surprising, though at times,
it’s none too clear.
V2.
Feels like it’s alright, then its not, but it won’t go away.
Keep your mind tied, up in a knot, you don’t know what to say.
But there’s really no disguising what was never really here.
It’ll open up your eyes when your days,
start to disappear.
Ch.
Let out the oars and row
It’s something you should know
Moving much too slow
Let out the oars and row
V3.
Watch at the window, an outside chance that a face appear
Chasing rainbows, through circumstance, the end is never near.
Well you come to realizing you’re searching empty skies.
Ain’t no room, for compromising, when the truth,
hits you right between the eyes.
Ch.
Let out the oars and row.
It’s something you should know.
Moving much too slow.
Let out the oars, let out the oars and row.

This is what the weekends for
making memories come alive
This is what the weekends for
relive them in my mind
This is what the weekends for
life goes by so fast working hard everyday
monday night mens softball games
friday night out with the guys
I asked a girl to dance with me that night
I fell in love forever changed my life
This is what the weekends for
making memories come alive
This is what the weekends for
relive them in my mind
This is what the weekends for
A dog a wife four kids living like
it’s the weekend every night
popcorn pillows and blankets fill the room
friday night movie night they fall asleep on the floor
I let them lay until the morning light
This is what the weekends for
making memories come alive
This is what the weekends for
relive them in my mind
This is what the weekends for
A nurse four pills a blue curtain divides this room
seems like forever will the weekend ever come
waiting for grandchildren to come thru that door
I’ll tell my story like they never heard it before
Island Girl
October
Andrew Fischer
2020
She moves like the rolling sea
She sighs like a wind in the palm tree
And she’s got eyes like an endless night
She smiles like a wildflower
Falls on me like a rain shower
And whispers something that sounds so right
And they say:
Many a foreign sailor
In these tropical waters
Lost his head o’er
An island girl
But she’s my little island girl
And I’d gladly give up
Everything else in the
Whole wide world
With the stars and the clouds in the sky
As the sun and the moon set and rise
Well I can’t tell if it’s night or day
On the white sand we lay down
As the salt water rushes round
We let the tide just wash it all away
And they say:
Many a foreign sailor
In these tropical waters
Lost his head o’er
An island girl
Let that homebound vessel sail away without me
But she’s my little island girl
And I’d gladly give up
Everything else in the
Whole wide world

Graeme Hall
2020
Back in my TAXI days, there was a listing asking for a song for a young artist who didn’t want to have a song about old age or divorce but about fun. Just think girls, girls, fast car and girls! This was my attempt… Unfortunately I could never finish the 2nd verse so I never submitted it. So here it is…somewhat delayed…
Verse 1
Don’t play me songs about old age
About divorce, the depression or dyin’ young
Don’t wanna hear about marital problems
Not when I’m tryna have some fun
Don’t tell me stories ‘bout the good old days
If you wanna make me feel good inside
Give me Rodeo bull ridin’
Beau Duke hood slidin’
Stuff that makes me feel alive
Build
Cause every day I get another day older
Can’t spend life lookin’ over your shoulder
Chorus
So give me girls, give me girls
Fast cars and girls
Hot senoritas every time
I’m livin’ life in the fast lane
Gonna lay it on the line
You can shoot me when I’m old and I’m done
Right now I’m crazy, I’m invincible, I’m young!
Verse 2
Don’t spend your whole life chasing money
It’s just the root of all evil (so they say)
Just earn enough to keep you footloose
That’s my philosophy anyway
Just give me an open top roadster out on the freeway
Two senoritas and the wind in my hair
It’s my plan to stay free
Of all responsibility
Livin’ life without a care
Build
Cause every day I get another day older
Can’t spend life lookin’ over your shoulder
Chorus
So give me girls, give me girls
Fast cars and girls
Hot senoritas every time
I’m livin’ life in the fast lane
Gonna lay it on the line
You can shoot me when I’m old and I’m done
Right now I’m crazy, I’m invincible, I’m young!
Bridge
[missing]
Guitar Break
[missing]
Don’t give up at the first hurdle
No that ain’t how the west was won
So stop cryin’ in your beer
Get your butt on over here
These two fine ladies are just looking for some FUN!
Chorus
So give me girls, give me girls
Fast cars and girls
Hot senoritas every time
I’m livin’ life in the fast lane
Gonna lay it on the line
You can shoot me when I’m old and I’m done
Right now I’m crazy, I’m invincible, I’m just plain dumb!
I Turn Around
September
Jay Harris
2020
Turn Around
I don’t often stop and look around me.
Guess I’m afraid what I may see.
People projecting all their fears out.
God knows I've got enough for me.
I turn around.
It’s not that I can’t be congenial.
I've got friends like no one else.
But this world is acting so amazing.
What’s real or not is hard to tell.
I hear each side expressing all their problems,
Laid out on the ground. Scattered all around.
So how can I address without understanding
The source that fuels it all, I mean what would it be called?
I turn around.
I go back home just turn around
Not my fight no answers found
No winners here nobody crowned
I give up just I turn around.
‘Cause when I’m by myself, at home, no one else.
Peace all around
Then I look outside my window and I see what’s going down.
No one can stop and really tell you.
Just how they want the world to be.
But hate and senseless life destruction.
The only message that I see.
Decades of lies, hurtful misunderstandings
Manifested all around, hear that awful sound.
Walls that divide so thick we can’t penetrate them
In every single town, why can’t we tear ‘em down.
I turn around.
Too big to eat no answer found
Agendas lurking all around
The fix just can’t get off the ground.
We can’t quit let’s turn around.
There’s too much good don’t tear it down.
Let’s talk it out, find common ground.
Hand in hand let’s stick around.

THE RIVER
© Anna Beavers Sept. 2020
VERSE 1
I lived by the river all my life
Played as a child by the riverside
Texas sun burning through my clothes
Red clay dirt between my toes
The first time it flooded I was nine
We barely made it out in time
Carried to the truck on Daddy’s back
Spare clothes in a paper sack
PRE-CHORUS 1
Small creek, wide Sea
I cried at my mother’s knee
Water as far as I could see
This is what she said to me
CHORUS
The river goes where it wants to be
The river longs to be set free
It’s outside of our control
The river goes where it wants to go
VERSE 2
Sun Shines. Rain ends
The river sleeps to rise again
Farms thrive in a muddy wake
The river gives. The river takes
Life is short and bitter sweet
Love comes. Love leaves
I wish you were here with me
But the river goes where it wants to be
PRE-CHORUS 2
Small creek, wide sea
The river will be what it's gonna to be
Almost gone, around the bend
Out of sight then back again
CHORUS 2
The river goes where it wants to be
The river longs to be set free
It’s outside of your control
The river goes where it wants to go

Walking In The Moonlight With You
September
John Taylor
2020
(Recorded on my iPhone. Not looking for audio critiques, just songwriting ones. Thanks for listening!)
One, two, three/ what a pair are we
Hunting foxes 'till the day is through
You with tags on your sleeve and me
Just walking in the moonlight with you
Walking in the moonlight with you
Walking in the moonlight with you
You with me take from the apple tree, then I'm
Walking in the moonlight with you
Will those that serve see we get what we deserve?
From the garden or the trough?
Me with dust in my shoe and you
In those clothes that you can't take off
Oh I did mean to go and fight for your dream. No more
Sitting 'round talking about bread
'till we got caught in that blackthorn bush. I'm thinking
We should've stayed in bed
One, two, three/ only then I see
That she had no tears to cry
It was only then that I took her hand
'cause we only get one try
Love a Lady
September
Kari Loya
2020
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Here were the minor changes I made to this version:
1) Modified the melody of the bridge for a little more variety.
2) Modified the lyrics of the bridge
3) Added a second vocal for harmony/fuller sound on the bridge.
4) Added some background "hey"s and "ho"s to the final chorus for some barroom/seafaring party energy!
I work the mines, plow the fields, write the code, swap the yields,
Sip the barley, corn, and rye, Cactus, cane, and rice, no lie!
I scream my lungs at my lads on screen, Give us more points and… less preen!
Stumble from the pub at a wee wee hour, Back to the hub to down my power.
And I know… Yes, I know…
Chorus:
I’ll sail the seas far and wide, I’ll climb the peaks, spelunk inside.
I’ll cross the scorching dunes of sand, On my way to understand…
All the beauty that abounds Savory scents, sights and sounds.
Just one thing’ll make me cryI wanna love a lady before I die.
I stick with numbers, just the facts, Flies, the only thing that attracts.
Butterfly wings are poetry. I’ll try to glide inside of me
And cultivate this garden plot, Though I’d rather be a Russian cosmonaut.
I’ll bring my flowers into the world. Pinks and periwinkles unfurled.
And I know… Yes, I know… I know… Yes I know…
Chorus:
Bridge:
I wanna love a lady but…
I wanna love a lady but…
I speak maps, they speak shoes…
They’re win-win, I’m win lose…
But I got hope. Ain't what I earn.
S'all about them, and what I learn.
[OLD: But I’ve got hope. No matter what I earn…
There’s so much I can learn.]
And I know… Yes, I know…
Chorus:
A Sunday Kind Of Morning
September
Ron Rost
2020
It's a Sunday kind of morning I'm lying in bed
Storm clouds performing their melancholy dance
I'm so into lazy nothing else stands a chance
It's a Sunday kind of morning in bed
Raindrops and rumbles tap a tympani tale
Lullabied ambitions diminish in scale
No need to scurry from where I lay my head
It's a Sunday kind of morning in bed
Chorus - Here I am planning out nothing at all
No set appointment no one to call
Bathed in the moment the slow blissful draw
It’s a Sunday kind of morning in bed
A Sunday kind of morning fait accompli
No chance of bustle far as I see
A casual condition at ease and worry free
It’s a Sunday kind of morning… and
Chorus
instrumental break
A Sunday kind of morning lying in bed
Storm clouds performing their melancholy dance
I'm so into lazy nothing else stands a chance
It's a Sunday kind of morning... and
Here I am planning out nothing at all
No set appointment no one to call
Bathed in the moment the slow blissful draw
It’s a Sunday kind of morning
A Sunday kind of morning
It's a Sunday kind of morning in bed
A Sunday kind of morning

Six String Man
Dan DeHart
I have played my guitar in so many bars
Played my songs, both near and far
I’ve Been stuck on the road, lonely and blue
Spending my time just thinking of you
Just give me a chance to shred my parts
And play the strings of your heart
=======================
Chorus
I’m a six string man, I can play in your band
I can play lead guitar, oh yes I can
I’m your six string man, I stay in the groove
I will walk the line, I will stay in tune
===============================
Lead break like verse
=================
Refrain
The best part of road is touching people’s hearts
The worst part is being apart
============================
I’m nearing the end of our current tour
Can’t wait to see you, of that I am sure
I’ve made some mistakes; I know that’s true
Just give me a chance, to make it up to you
I’ll do anything you want me to
To show you how much that I love you

Is There Anybody Out There
September
Andrew Fischer
2020
Would you rise with the sun? Would you fall with the rain?
Would you blame anyone for the grief and the pain?
Would you rush with the river? Would you howl with the wind?
And if you could, would you ever do it over again?
Is there anybody out there anymore?
Would fly with the clouds? Would you set with the moon?
Would you just wonder how it could happen to you?
Would you blaze like a star? Would you sink like a stone?
In the end, could you ever brave it alone?
Is there anybody out there anymore?
Breathe out
You’re free now
Can’t you see how?
You’re free now
Would you rise with the sun? Would you set with the moon?
Would you just wonder how it could happen to you?
Why Me
September
Ron Tintner
2020
This is the piece to follow "The Message" [ https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=7358570 ] in the "Space Opera." Our hero has been getting these prophetic but cryptic "messages" in his head and trying to figure out why he is so lucky and what is he supposed to. In an epic story template, not unlike Moses getting his marching orders from the burning bush - and he asked similar questions.
Why Me? (The Message, Part II)
Words & Music by Ron Tintner © 2020, ASCAP
Over and over I see in my head
A sound of unearthly design
A pulsatile, crystalline, shimmering tone
But with logic and meaning inside
It’s clearly a message, but what does it mean
An omen, a puzzle, a sign?
Stronger and stronger, day after day
Possessing my thoughts and my time
Why me? Of all the people on earth
Why me? Without title or station by birth
Why me? I never volunteered
Why me? Why me? Why me?
I query discretely my fam’ly and friends
I search my resources on-line
No one acknowledges hearing or seeing
The things going on in my mind
I dare not consult doctors or counselors
They’d lock me up in a cell
But still I believe that the message has meaning
I’m not just insane or unwell
Why me? Of all the people on earth
Why me? Without title or station by birth
Why me? I never volunteered
Why me? Why me? Why me?
Break
The meaning has crystallized, I know my task
To carry the message sent from the past
To the ends of the earth
To the ends of the sky
Till the end of the days of my life

We have uploaded revised version of he song based on the comments. Thanks for critiques,
The Work Bench
Jeanie Rosenberg Trotter, Buddy Trotter and Danny Liggett
V1
A little girl sat on the basement steps, thinking it was cool
Her Dad was down there all alone, working with his tools
She watched from her point of view, learning what he knew
Chorus
That old work bench, where Daddy used his tools
That old work bench, where she learned the rules
When something’s broken, doesn’t mean its’ use is through
Cause it can be fixed, just like Daddy used to do
V2
The little girl began to learn what each tool was meant for
From his oil can she learned to oil her bike, with his wrench she fixed much more
With a shoeshine box that she made, polished her shoes with pride
Chorus
Bridge
From morning through afternoon
The life lessons she’d consume
Special times gone too soon
V3
After Daddy passed, she had to go back and open that basement door
She sat on the bench, and thought about the lessons she didn’t ignore
Knowing her life since was shaped by that work bench
Chorus

Jasmine's in the Wind Again
September
Todd Bynum
2020
I have a remix of the song. Same lyrics, but give it a new listen. I hope you like it. Thanks for all the comments!
Jasmine’s In The Wind
It’s Spring in the park again;
young lovers whisper, “I love you”
walking hand in hand
They pause for a moment
by a wishing pond and close their eyes
And toss a coin in
They both smile because they know
without words they wished the same
and when they go, the sweet air
brings you home home
Chorus:
Jasmine oh Jasmine floating on a soft Spring breeze
you are there unmistakable once again with me
only for a moment and then a me mo ry
Jasmin’s in the wind a—gain
I think of your hand in mine,
when we walked just like those young ones do
Yes, those were good times
Life was so perfect then
We were laughing, loving having fun
like it would never end

Country music has always been my first love. I wanted to write a song reminiscent of the old master, George Jones. So sit back with a bottle of whatever it is you choose to cry into, and join me in a listen! Thanks!
to Believe
I thought I ought
to believe in you
I knew my wildest dream had come true
I fought, I could not
believe we were through
now I ought to be leaving you
you tell me that it’s easy
this saying “goodbye”
I’m not quite sure, how that is so.
how do I deny
this hurt on the inside
how long does it take it to go?
oh star light, star bright
I wish that I might
wish once and have it come true
please let me forget
the moment we met
maybe then I can get over you
‘cause I thought I ought
to believe in you
I knew my wildest dream had come true
I fought, I could not
believe we were through
now I ought to be leaving you
each night the streetlights
all stare ‘till the dawn
then wink out, each one at a time
I pray that one day
your memory will fade
and leave me a piece of my mind
‘cause I thought I ought
to believe in you
I knew my wildest dream had come true
I fought, I could not
believe we were through
now I ought to be leaving you
oh, I ought to be leaving you.

V1
When our kids first moved out of the house
We were thrilled to be all alone
For a couple of years, we were both like
Two birds flying on our own
V2
But after a while that feeling wore out
We realized something was missing
That echo of joy through this house
Of children laughing and singing
Pre Chorus - So we started wishing and praying for
grandkids to come along
Chorus
They call us Granny and Pops
Running all around this house
Like a great big circus of fun
We’re their Granny and Pops
Though they wear us both out
We never mind when they come
To their Grandma and Grandpa’s house
V3
We sit on the floor making castles
Out of Lego building blocks
Reading books about Spider Man
And sometimes Goldie Locks
V4
We have more time to play with them
Then our own kids ever had
And if they start misbehaving
We send them back to Mom and Dad
Bridge - There’s nothing sweeter than the sound of “I love you Granny”
There’s nothing sweeter than the sound of “I love you Pops”
Chorus 2X
They call us Granny and Pops
Running all around this house
Like a great big circus of fun
We’re their Granny and Pops
Though they wear us both out
We never mind when they come
To their Grandma and Grandpa’s house
We never mind when they come
To their Grandma and Grandpa’s house

Danny Liggett
Verse 1
Here I am, on the street
Looking for something to eat
Money’s tight, cupboard’ s bare
Don’t have a dime to spare
Had a job, it was lost
Got sideways with the boss
I’ll get by, have no fret
World hasn’t beat me yet
Chorus
‘cause I ain’t broke
Money’s just a joke
Don’t need to be fixed
I ain’t licked
Having a bad day
Going my own way
But I ain’t broke
Verse 2
Hot days, cold nights
Rainy weather really bites
Bones ache, muscles sore
Sweating from every pore
Dead tired, feel it deep
Really could use some sleep
Ain’t young, feeling old
How’d the world get this cold
Chorus
But I ain’t broke
Strong as an oak
Don’t need to be fixed
I ain’t licked
Just a bad day
Going my own way
But I ain’t broke
Verse 3
I’ve been up, I’ve been down
I’ve been all across this town
Found love, broke my heart
Here I am back at the start
Joy’s gone, feel despair
Sometimes I don’t care
Feeling more, feeling less
Where I’ll land I can’t guess
Chorus
But I ain’t broke
I ain’t had a stroke
Don’t need to be fixed
I ain’t licked
Just a bad day
Going my own way
But I ain’t broke
I ain’t broke….

WOULD YOU LIKE TO DANCE
Revised 8-24-2020
I brought the tempo up in the waltz/verses to smooth out the adjustment, improved the mix balance and vocals. All critiques were so valuable, some still under consideration;) Thank you everyone.
Written by Anna Beavers August 2020
Maggie the midnight magnet waited alone for last call
Daniel the dreamer watched her while he leaned against the wall
He’d seen her out on the dance floor. She’d seen him walk in the door
At a quarter to 12 he got up his nerve
This is what bars are for
CHORUS
Can I buy you a drink, or two
Do you come here a lot, I do
Do you live around here, me too
Would you like to dance?
Can I buy you a drink or two
Do you come here a lot, I do
Do you live around here, me too
Would you like to dance?
Loneliness comes in all flavors. Night makes it harder to taste
Daniel was hoping he didn’t seem drunk. Maggie thought “this could be a mistake”
He liked the way she moved on her feet as he led her around the floor
She like the feel of his arms round her waist.
This is what bars are for
CHORUS
Some people come for the music. Some people come for the booze
Some people come cause there’s nothing to do or they feel like there’s nothing to lose
Ask her and Maggie will tell you there’s more. She was there for all the above
But after twenty-five years she’s still dancing with Daniel
and a bar’s where they fell in love
CHORUS (as above)
CHORUS FINAL
Can I buy you a drink or two
Do you come here a lot, I do
I don’t want to be alone, do you
Would you like to dance?
TAG
I don’t want to be alone, do you
Would you like to dance?

She Had a Bad Dream

She Had a Bad Dream
She had a bad dream but she doesn’t know why.
Maybe it’s something she said or did - she might have learned something I tried to keep hid
But now, she just can’t find the answer
She may never know at all.
She had a bad dream now I’m wondering why.
I thought of the past and the things I’d done - I told myself I hadn’t done wrong
No way, she’d know I’d lied. My eyes just can’t hide.
Could it be I’m dreaming also, and there’s no place left to hide.
Another day gone and another night’s time
It’s gonna be rough from the weight in the air,
There aren’t any rules and it doesn’t fight fair.
You can feel the fright and the tension and height
And the doubt that it brings, to the hope as it flees
From a mind that believes in the black and the white,
It’s just wrong or it’s right or it’s gone.
And there’s no hope in tomorrow
When she suffers everyday
She had a bad dream and I know just why
Too many years and too many times, she’s wanted to leave but she’ll go this time
I know, she’ll say goodbye. She’s gone goodbye.
Now I’m here all alone, my whole world is gone
I’ve thrown it away, I've lived my last day
Nothing fixes the hurt, it’s gone bad to worst
Pull the trigger I can’t stay alive
Goodbye

I don't think I could reach the moon
I don't find I could make that move
I don't feel myself in tune
I don't know if I could hold you
Chorus
Mountains climb to greet the rain
Valleys wind to meet the plain
Rivers run to kiss the sea
I’d do anything if you'd have me
Days draw out in search of night
Shadows dream in fading light
Through the years I long for you
I call your name my soul refrain
I gaze on the moon
Chorus
I don't think I could reach the moon
I don't know if I could hold you
Oh I... I could hold you
I could reach the moon

Inspired by some movie with Steve Carrel in it about him and a couple of Army buddies going to collect his son's body from the Army. There's a line in the movie - something like "we were all someone once - now we're just someone else". Struck a Chord so Helen and I and a bottle of wine worked up this song. somehow it turned into a song about the state of the world and how we should really start fixing some $#!t

Verse
This all meant something once
Now our minds are somewhere else
We all seem content to wallow
In the poverty of our wealth
We pretend to search for changes
While everything remains the same
People all through the ages
Are distracted by celebrity and fame
(Meanwhile)
The truth hides somewhere else
And maybe you gotta lose yourself
To find that…
Chorus
If you don’t love me now
If you don’t want to change
We ain’t gonna work this out
If you won't turn the page
You say you don’t want pain and sorrow
But you don't understand
We won't build a better tomorrow
If you won’t reach out and take my hand
Yeah, you don’t even see me now
Even when I scream and shout
If you don’t love me now…
Verse
In our own minds we are number one
To the world we're just someone else
We don't see the irrelevance
Of the importance we place in ourselves
We all hate compromising
Focus on personal gain
Continually strategizing
On being the top of our game
(Meanwhile)
The truth hides somewhere else
And maybe you gotta lose yourself
To find that…
Chorus
If you don’t love me now
If you don’t want to change
We ain’t gonna work this out
If you won't turn the page
You say you don’t want pain and sorrow
But you don't understand
We won't build a better tomorrow
If you won’t reach out and take my hand
No you don’t even see me now
Even when I scream and shout
If you don’t love me now…

Time Warp (Prelude & Fugue)
Geoff Matthews (Words)/Ron Tintner(Music)
Prelude:
Endless are the echoes that haunt the weary traveler
The mind flexes and moves, while it slumbers in perpetual flight.
At near light speed… Where time warps
Waves of thought… Beyond control.
They echo... Over and over, again and again
Cascading and crashing through unconsciousness...
There is no respite... no relief
Bending and morphing reality into distorted reflections of the chaos within
Chaos beyond all validity... Chaos beyond all reason...
But still... Making perfect sense
V1:
He lay his head on the water.
Ripples no one could see.
Deep in his crystal reflection.
He saw his history.
Such an irrational feeling.
Seeing his heart through his [B7] skin.
Watching it beating
Like dark clouds within.
Pre-Chorus:
And while the sky continues to fall.
He says to the girl on the wall…
CHORUS:
It’s no cosmic surprise.
That look in your eyes.
I can feel the time warp
I can feel the time warp.
Though I look like a fool,
While you play it so cool.
I can hear your mind talk
I can feel the time warp.
V2:
The patient is laid out before her.
He’s got nothing to hide.
Waiting to feel the incision,
The ache in his side.
He hears her velvety footsteps.
Dagger clutched to her breast.
She moves with a silent intention.
And heads for his chest.
PRE-CHORUS CHORUS
BRIDGE:
But she only said no
It’s time go
No need for approval…
Make it quick and clean
If you know what I mean
Pre-Break (spoken):
At near light speed… Where time warps… My mind is the portal
Can you see me? Can you hear me? My mind is the portal
Can you feel me? Sleep on Earthman…
INSTRUMENTAL BREAK
And the sky continues to fall.
As he says to the girl on the wall…
It’s no cosmic surprise.
That look in your eyes.
I can feel the time warp
I can feel the time warp
I can feel the time warp
I can feel the time…

OPEN G TUNING: D G D G B D
Hanging for your life from that tree
Waiting for your wings to dry
Contemplating what will be
Where will you go, butterfly?
Cocooned within the chrysalis afraid of the world
Hoping your colors will unfurl
Every spring you teach us these lessons once again
Get your courage up, and begin
CHORUS:
Go, go, butterfly
Fly high, so high
Go, go butterfly
Fly high!!
We live for a such a short time
We dream, we love, and we cry
Show off while you are in your prime
Teach us all how, butterfly
Cocooned within the chrysalis away from the world
Inventing new colors to unfurl
Every spring you teach us these lessons once again
Change only comes, from within.
CHORUS
Wings and colors on display
Its time to leave that tree
Maybe you'd better be, on your way.

there stands the bottle
here stands the glass
I keep getting this picture,
over and over, out of the past
love, laughs, and liquor
flowed heavy and strong
no glass was empty
‘till the bottle was gone
midnight until morning
the most dangerous time of all
whenever I close my eyes, hard as I try,
the rain begins to fall
and this feeling like thunder,
in the light of the flash,
there stands the bottle, here stands the glass
it’s easy to run in the light of the day
but along come the night and the demons will play
the moon is a harsh mistress, but she’ll tag along
‘till the glass is empty, and the bottle is gone
there stands the bottle
here stands the glass
i keep getting this picture,
over and over, out of the past
love was the liquor
life was the song
no glass was empty
‘till the bottle was gone
now the glass is empty
the bottle is gone.

Song Lyrics – Hey, Mistletoe!
Wanderin’ down Fifth Avenue alone checking out displays
Snowflakes parachutin’ ‘round got me in a Cupid daze.
Couples holdin’ hands, gigglin’ like they ain’t bound by floor, ceiling, or wall.
A guy’s sellin’ magic green branches so I tell him, “Why don’t you give me them all?”
Then I’m gonna say…
Chorus:
Hey, Mistletoe – I need you night and day!
I just want a little bit of lovin’ for the comin’ holiday.
I hang one at my front door, another two right by my bed,
three at the dining room table, and then I tape one to my head.
My colleagues start callin’ me crazy when I turn the conference room blinds all green.
Plus the elevators, stairs, and the parking garage. Nearly every place that I seen.
And I’m gonna say…
Chorus

Did some crazy things in high school
Did some crazy things since
Some I grabbed the golden ring
Some I should’ve had more sense
Call it anything you want
But here’s the naked truth
It’s all an indication
Of a misspent youth
Chorus
The past has faded
Like a burnt-out light
The future looming
Like a foggy night
But I’m doing alright
Yeah, I’m doing ok
I’m just worried about
Living today
Can’t worry about tomorrow
I can’t see that far
Might be homeless
Hey, I might be a star
Some say, have a goal
You must choose a path
If you don’t, you’ll suffer
Tomorrow’s wrath
Chorus
The past has faded
Like a burnt-out light
The future looming
Like a foggy night
But I’m doing alright
Yeah, I’m doing ok
Trying to get through
Living today
You must learn from the past
But you need to live for today
Have a plan for the future
It’s the only way
That’s the current wisdom
That’s what they all say
But right now, I’m too busy
Living today
Chorus
The past has faded
Like a burnt-out light
The future looming
Like a foggy night
But I’m doing alright
Yeah, I’m doing ok
I’m trying to get through
Living today
I’m just worried about
living today
I got my sights set on
Living today
Just living today

The old folks saying that you’re just too sad
And the old folks asking why you’re always mad
Well they’ll tell you now you know it ain’t so bad
But I’ll tell you now you know they wish they had
Let’s go dancing on your stanford bill
Long as you twist honey you can drink your fill
Long as you ask honey oh you know I will

Pirate Soul
July
Dan DeHart

By Dan DeHart
2019
Verse 1
I read every buccaneer story I could find about those pirate days
And dreamed of those bloody cutthroats and how they were portrayed
I knew I’d be at home on the seas, with a pirate flag displayed
Proudly sailing my ship into Port Royale returning from another foray
Verse 2
I was born under the zodiac image of the crab; I knew that was very good sign
For a life to come on the deep blue seas, tending to a sheet and a line
As soon as I could, a sailing boat, somehow, I did obtain
Not a Brigantine or a Ship of The Line, just a sloop that was all mine
Chorus
I know I have a Pirate’s soul, but I don’t know his name,
But I know he must be alright cause we are so much the same
He must have plowed the seas, and climbed the rigging’ and played a Mandolin
Sang a chanty song and spun them tales, and then passed them along to his twin.
Bridge
I’d have a parrot named “Popeye” and I’d take everywhere
I teach him how tie a bowline, trim a sail and how to swear
Verse 3
So, if I could go back 300 years what an adventure it would be
But to plunder, steal and fight with swords, that would not be me
Just, give me some rum and a pirate’s feast, and a damsel in distress
And that pirate soul would take control and he would give it his very best.
Repeat Chorus

Please don’t fly away
Like a bird let from a cage
Darling, please don’t fly away
Away from me
And don’t you say goodbye
As if you and I’ve untied
Darling, no don’t say goodbye
I’m begging you please
You belong to me, babe
And I belong to you
You belong to me
And I belong only to you
Till my dying day
Like the stars that never fade
Darling, till my dying day
I’ll always be true
You belong to me, babe
And I belong to you
You belong to me
And I belong only to you
It’s just some of the time
That these heartbeats don’t rhyme
It’s just some of the time
They don’t rhyme

And I belong to you, babe
Please don’t fly away from me

Miss Deborah
It’s hard to believe that 35 years have come and gone.
Some say time is just an illusion we can feel.
But sometimes I sent and think about old days when I was young.
And a memory I thought for sure was surely gone.
Each week Mom and Dad would drag me off to Sunday school, when it was plainly clear I ‘d rather stay in bed.
See I was 9 years old and dressing up never suited me too well.
And on the other hand I was scared I’d go to hell.
Then something happened when I went to big church.
A voice just like an Angel, came down straight from the sky
Do I have any little friends out there if I do come gather near.
And when Miss Deborah gave the children’s sermon, God spoke straight to me.
And she said all God's children pray I need forgiveness.
All God's children pray I know I’ve sinned.
I bet she never missed a week. We’d sit and gather round her feet.
When Miss Deborah gave the children’s sermon, God spoke straight to me.
I know her words affected how I looked at things.
She made me want to give to others, realize that I'd been blessed.
Those memories such a comfort, when the world rears up its head,
All my fears and cares are quickly laid to rest.
Some days I wonder where she is and if she noticed.
What a difference all her children’s sermons made
I pray that she can see without her who knows where I’d be
When Miss Deborah gave the children’s sermon, God spoke straight to me.
And she said all God's children pray I need forgiveness.
All God's children pray I know I’ve sinned.
I bet she never missed a week. We’d sit and gather round her feet.
When Miss Deborah gave the children’s sermon, God spoke straight to me.
Yes when Miss Deborah gave the children’s sermon, God spoke straight to me.

As a little-girl I longed to cross the street to skate
The sidewalk was smooth and straight
I wanted so to be there, my feet flyin’ like the wind
The sun against my skin
On a day that never ends
Those smooth sidewalks called to me
Smooth sidewalks
As time went by and seasons passed I grew a a bit more bold
I was always lookin’ for a faster road
It seemed there were never any limits to my speed
There was for lightning on my feet
So many streets to see
Those smoother sidewalks called to me
Smooth sidewalks
Change to the slow lane
Olly, Olly in free
Change to the slow lane
Change to the slow lane
I sit here all alone now watching kids across the way
Testing every limit as they play
I know I've gone as fast now as I'm ever gonna go
I turned a corner and got old
I'm almost out of road
No more smooth sidewalks call to me
I miss smooth sidewalks,
No more smooth sidewalks
Smooth sidewalks

if you don’t ever start it
if you can’t stand the loss well
son, don’t play the game
should it all fall apart
you can still save your heart
just by keeping it out of
the salt water rain
red eyes and Levis
plenty of rope
running on thin lines
a rhyme and a joke
seemed worth believing
only slightly deceiving
a heart in a bottle
can never be broke
it’s nice to be noble
but time after time
opportunity turns
and I fall far behind
my very own expectations
of healthy relations
and the feeling so many folks
call peace of mind
but it’s easy to stop
if you don’t ever start it
if you can’t walk away
son, you know who’s to blame
should it all fall apart
you can still save your heart
just by keeping it out of
the salt water rain
salt water rain
stains on my pillow
reflect the pain
strain on a heart
salt water rain
weeping like a willow tree
ain’t no good for me
well the easy part’s over
now comes the time
pick up all the pieces
finish the rhyme
wading through rejects
counting on reflex
to move me on further
not farther behind
‘cause it’s so hard to stop
once you’ve got it all started
any way that you choose
has its own brand of pain
as it all falls apart
you can salvage your heart
just go waltz it on out in
the salt water rain
salt water rain
stains on my pillow
reflect the pain
strain on a heart
salt water rain
weeping like a willow tree
feels so good to me
Washes Out IN The Rain
July
Ron Rost
2020
Storms pour buckets down on this old place
drowning deep desires leaving scars hard to erase
Seeping through the rafters staining every thought within
damp cold darkness etching goosebumps on the skin
The shadow of the emptiness draws dimmer as I walk on down the hall
And the sour shock of bitterness grows sweeter now the writings on the wall
Gathered up pieces of broken down dreams
Divining what truth is defining what it means
to sweep away dust of old take a chance on what is yet to come
Bust the front door open hit the road ride out on a thumb
And my bags are packed for leaving in the morning
Gonna pick up pace head off on my way
Run out on this life that I've been mourning
And pray it washes out in the rain
Now uneasiness lands heavy on this evening
creaking floors beg for me to stay
Windows crack and run in howling disbelief
at lines of missing pictures where nothings left to hang
A mist of irritation seeks attention as the radiator heater over boils
I lay down for the night and I listen to a weeping house unveil it’s last recoil
Chorus
Now I can’t remember what it was that held me
Dissuaded me from being who I am
Some regulating voice or predetermined choice
Step into a mirror to find where it began
The shadow of the emptiness draws dimmer as I walk on down this hall
And the sour shock of bitterness grows so much sweeter now that the writings on the wall
My bags are packed for leaving this morning
Gonna pick up pace head off on my way
Run out on this life that I've been mourning
And pray it washes out in the rain
I’m gonna run out on this life that I've been mourning
Pray it washes out in the rain
Pray it washes out in the rain
I’m gonna pray it washes out in the rain

Take A Little Trip With Me
Patricia Bishop and Jesse Navarro ©June 2020
V1
We’ve worked very hard and now we’re free
To only think about you and me
Let’s pack our bags while we still have time
Don’t worry ‘bout the house .. it’ll be fine
V2
We can leave as soon as the middle of June
Think of it as a second honeymoon
See the Vegas lights from The Grand Hotel
Instead of off the road in a cheap motel
Lead In …. Now …… we’re free
Chorus 1
Take a little trip with me
A perfect getaway wanna give it a try
It’s only gonna be you and I
Take a little trip with me
V3
We can take a slow ride on the Creole Queen
On the Mississippi down in New Orleans
Grab an early flight to the Florida Keys
Diving with the dolphins in the summer breeze
V4
Maybe we can visit the Golden Isles
If we really like it we can stay a while
Play a game of golf along the eastern coast
See a school of fish from a glass bottom boat
Lead In .. Now …. we’re free
Chorus 2
Take a little trip with me
A perfect getaway wanna give it a try
Make our own sweet paradise
Take a little trip with me
Chorus 3
Take a little trip with me
A perfect getaway wanna give it a try
It’s only gonna be you and I
Enjoying life with a new set of eyes
Make our own sweet paradise
Take a little trip with me
Tag
Now, …. we’re free

Firefly
Words and Music c2016, and 2019 by Melanie E Broussard
Hope has faded from my sight
No spark from the divine light
A razor poised upon my vein
Letting out all the pain.
But no amount of bleeding
Seems to ever make me clean
Chorus:
Firefly fly across the sky,
Give me just a little spark
The light to lead me from the dark.
Firefly guide me to the morning sun.
Please just get me to the morning sun
V2
Shadows fell upon my soul
Leaving me nowhere to go
No light shines through the door
No safe harbor at the shore
Is darkness such a sin
We all visit there now and then
Chorus
Bridge
One spark
One light
Out of this darkest night
Sunrise
Sparks in my eyes.
Chorus
Firefly, Look, It’s the morning sun.

**Thanks for the great input on the song. We made a couple of changes and uploaded the revised version**.
The Lost Art
Verse 1
A simple act of kindness
Not seen much these days
Not given a second thought
As we go our own way
An act passed to another
With no one keeping score
No praise expected
Not seeking anything more
This act was forgotten
In this time of “what’s for me?”
Greed and pride rule the day
Lost is our humanity
Chorus
What would the world be like
If we were just to say
“I’ll do one kind act
Each and every day”
Maybe, just maybe
We’ll make some progress
Bringing back
The lost art of kindness
Verse 2
Hold a door, Smile at folks
Say hello, shake a hand
It doesn’t hurt, it’s also free
You’ll begin to understand
You may think you’re poor
But rich in heart you’ll be
The burden of life will lift
Once you start, you’ll see
Your actions will be seen
An example will be set
For children and your friends
And others yet to be met
Chorus
Bridge
Open your heart
Be kind as you can be
So, the whole world can see
Chorus
End tag
Maybe, just maybe
We’ll make some progress
Bringing back
The lost art of kindness

Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough

***06/15/20 Updated .mp3 and lyrics***
So I just wrote this song a couple of weeks ago and finished a few days ago so I still haven't really got it "under my fingers" or how to sing it just yet. I almost feel it needs to go in a different key so it's in a more comfortable range. So that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. : )
************************
Eighty seven dollars six pack of beer
Compass pointed west will take me far from here
Barely held together vintage stepside truck
Full tank, my guitar, my clothes and such
ooh ooh ooooooh oooh oooooh
ooh ooh ooooooh oooh oooooh
fell so hard and fell so fast
love was blind turned a cheek to the bad
months on end on a high then low
matter of time i couldn’t take no more
PRE-CHORUS
All the kings horses and all the kings men
we all know the story of that broken egg
worked real hard to patch together the cracks
sometimes things they just never go back
CHORUS
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love....
put in our time gave it our best shot
can’t deny really felt in love
But a 1000 cuts later made it really rough
Sometimes love just aint enough
ooh ooh ooooooh
ooh ooh ooooooh
PRE-CHORUS
All the kings horses and all the kings men
we all know the story of that broken egg
worked real hard to patch together the cracks
sometimes things they just never go back
CHORUS
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love just aint enough
Sometimes love...
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the king's men and his horses
Couldn't put ol' Humpty back
We couldn't put us
put us back!

Compass pointed west will take me far from here

REVISED VERSION: Some revisions in lyrics and arrangement based on suggestions with a few changes to dynamics as well.
She played fiddle on Saturday nights beneath the mountain sky
He had an old beat up guitar he longed to give a try
He hemmed and hawed and finally got the nerve to play along
He smiled at her. She smiled back and they struck up a song
CHORUS
Cause some things just go together
Like moonlight and mountain stars
Some loves will last forever
Some things just go together
Like a fiddle and an old guitar
Later that year in the early fall he took her as his bride
They worked the fields and raised their kids, together side by side
Saturday night when the sun set low, the kids would gather round
He’d take down her fiddle and his old guitar.
Neighbors came from near and far
To dance a jig and pass the jar
You could hear ‘em clear 'cross town
He often sat there on the porch after she passed on
He never played his guitar, after she was gone
Then one evening he took it out and laid her fiddle by its side
He smiled as he looked at the setting sun
And then leaned back and died. (

If My Heart Wouldn't Beat
June
Ron Rost
2020
If My Heart Wouldn't Beat
Sorrow paints today - a dreary lonesome gray
Color of my rainbow - sadly fades away
Morning finds me dress - my usual Sunday best
Parting of ways - a final prayer lays - her body down to rest
Refrain
(a) The only one in this world - that truly was a real pearl
Kept me hanging on - taught me right from wrong
Knew me from the start
(b) The only tie to bind me - ease and set my mind free
Left with all her grace - through heavens golden gate
Now I fall apart
Chorus
If my mind wouldn’t think, my eyes wouldn’t see
My legs wouldn’t walk, my lungs wouldn’t breath
My hands wouldn’t touch,, my soul wouldn’t bleed
I wouldn’t be so crushed, it wouldn’t hurt so much
If my heart wouldn’t beat
Breathless break of dawn - a burning bitter draw
An emptiness eclipse – scorch my senses raw
Reeling and distressed - uneasiness unrest
Underneath this weight - a mournful manic state - nothing but a mess
Refrain (b)
Outro
If my mind wouldn’t think, my eyes wouldn’t see
My legs wouldn’t walk, my lungs wouldn’t breath
My hands wouldn’t touch,, my soul wouldn’t bleed
I wouldn’t be so crushed, it wouldn’t hurt so much
If my mind wouldn’t think, my eyes wouldn’t see
My legs wouldn’t walk, my lungs wouldn’t breath
My hands wouldn’t touch,, my soul wouldn’t bleed
I wouldn’t be so crushed...
If my mind wouldn’t think, my eyes wouldn’t see
My legs wouldn’t walk, my lungs wouldn’t breath
My hands wouldn’t touch, my soul wouldn’t bleed
I wouldn’t be so crushed, it wouldn’t hurt so much
If my heart wouldn’t beat...
It wouldn’t be so crushed, I wouldn’t hurt so much...
If my heart wouldn’t beat…

You become a part of me

I’m Just Saying
Well that hit the spot, Baby that was great.
I mean who don’t like a big chicken fried steak lapping over the plate?
A pile of mashed potatoes, and fresh cut green beans.
Man that was savory, could’ve used some gravy.
I’m not saying that’s wrong. I ‘m just sharing my thought. Go ask Paula Dean I believe she would tell you it could use a few drops.
Hell I’m not complaining, I mean I cleaned my plate.
I’m not saying that’s wrong. Baby I’m just saying.
Well that’s a mighty nice truck. I bet it goes real fast.
I bet it throws up mud like a maniac and cuts through real tall grass.
Man look at them wheels. That baby’s built to last.
Mmmm that’s sweet. I bet she eats a lot of gas.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m just sharing my thoughts.
She‘s got a GPS, lift package and a towing wench that pulls real boss.
4 wheel drive transmission, yea you could haul a lot of logs
I’m not saying that’s wrong, man I’m just saying.
Well you’ve said a lot. You’ve been talking all night.
As a matter of fact I’m a little surprised you ain’t started a fight.
From God to politicians, to girls with pretty long hair.
Yea man I hear ya. But does anybody care.
I’m not saying that’s wrong, I’m just sharing my thoughts.
You’ve been flapping your jaws like buzzards' wings criticizing one and all.
Fancy words are flying, accusations strong.
I’m not saying that’s wrong. Man I’m just saying.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, man I’m just saying.

State of the Union

I know this song is long (I had a lot to say). Let me know what you think could be removed. And any other comments to improve
State of the Union
V1
The lady with the torch stands tall and proud
But now she whispers, what once was loud
Give me your tired, give me your poor
But the light is out on that golden door
V2
We talk the talk but not in act or deed
No room in the inn for those is need
Children deported, no mom or dad
Nothing right about it, only bad
Chorus 1
It’s the state of the union
Now don’t you feel proud
It’s the state of the union
Say it our loud, I’m proud
V3
Business is business, so the story goes
Promises broken, yeah everybody knows
Squeeze that quarter ‘til the eagle screams
Crush the life out of the American dream
V4
Bail out the banks, corporations
Not the small guy, heart of the nation
The one percent pulls the strings
Leading us toward a silent spring
Chorus 1
It’s the state of the union
Now don’t you feel proud
It’s the state of the union
Say it our loud, I’m proud
V5
Career politician that’s where it’s at
Give yourself a raise, make yourself fat
Color the states red and blue
Don’t care who wins, as long as it’s you
V6
Divide the people in to rich and poor
We don’t need a middle, no, not anymore
We’ll have the haves and the have nots
One takes it all, the rest, got what they got
Chorus 2
It’s the state of the union
Used to make us proud
It’s the state of the union
Say it our loud, I’m proud
V7
We are all the same but varying colors
Some are treated different from the others
Justice fails and we burst into flames
Accuse someone else but we’re all to blame
V8
Has the founders’ dream gone astray?
What would they think if they were here today?
They might be happy, they might be sad
But I like to think, they’d be hoppin’ mad
Chorus 3
It’s the state of the union
Needs to make us proud
It’s the state of the union
Say it our loud, I’m proud
V9
Your heads in the sand, hiding from the truth
But it’s still there, like the throbbing tooth
Look around this ain’t “Home on the Range”
Everything’s broken, it’s time for a change
V10
You can’t out-run it, it won’t go away
It only gets worse if we don’t start today
Take one step, make something better
It’s easy when we all, work together
Chorus 4
It’s the state of the union
It can make us proud
It’s the state of the union
Say it our loud, I’m proud
I’m proud to be here but
I wish we could change a few things

I Wrote This Song
June
Jesse Navarro \ Regineld Shelton
2020
Drowning in memories of you and me
that’s not how it ought to be
sitting at home all alone
thinking about good times that has come and gone
so I wrote this song
nowI’m feeding the birds in the park
staying out there late long after dark
dreading the thought of going back home
every moment without you it hurts
so I wrote this song
I’m holding my heart hoping for a new start
thinking of you why where apart
I still love you here I am
my feeling don’t lie even though your gone
so I wrote this song
driving around going nowhere in my car
searching the sky for a falling star
trying to stay away from the local bar
drink after drank and going to far
so I wrote this song
I drink by myself with the unknown
help me awake from a dream that went wrong
so I wrote this song
So Far, So Good (the Pandemic Shuffle)
June
Paul Boedeker
2020
(chorus)
so far, so good
knock on wood
i must say it’s a beautiful day
in the neighborhood
it’s been better
but i’ve seen worse
hope we’re still around
to sing the next verse
wouldn’t change it
if i thought i could
so far, so good
(verse)
you ask how am I doing?
ain't lookin’ for a list of woes
trying to be friendly
this, i know
well, i woke up today
i’m right here talking to you
some days a smile
is the best that we can do
it’s a happy
little interlude!
so far, so good
(verse)
Dow’s down in the toilet
entire economy’s shot
i’ll be looking for a job tomorrow
like it or not
this world's one long procession
of valleys and peaks
still gonna have to get up,
fix the roof whenever it leaks
doesn’t need to
wreck the mood!
so far, so good
(bridge)
meetings, greetings,
“Hi's” and “Bye's”
a whole lot more to this life
than meets the eye
we each only get a little bit
don’t let none of it by
it’s a matter of attitude
so far, so good
(repeat chorus)

Secondhand Heart
Patricia Bishop and Jesse Navarro ©2020
V1
I fell in love with someone I met
Who broke my heart and I'd like to forget
Long as I have this heart to remind me
I can’t move on cause I’m looking behind me
Chorus
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
A little torn and falling apart
It used to be red, strong and brand new
Now it’s changing colors turning blue
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
V2
Ever had a heart that’s been misused?
You trade it in or sell it if you choose
Give it away, the harder you’ll fall
A secondhand heart is better than nothing at all
Chorus
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
A little torn and falling apart
It used to be red, strong and brand new
Now it’s changing colors turning blue
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
Bridge
Though this heart of mine is on the verge of collapse
I know a little loving from somebody can bring it back
Chorus
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
A little torn and falling apart
It used to be red, strong, and brand new
Now it’s changing colors turning blue
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
Would you like to buy a secondhand heart?
Dance Like the 80s
June
Kari Loya
2020
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
Lyrics are the same (below) for the resubmitted version. The changes I made are:
1) Cut four bars (32 seconds) from the outro.
2) Softened all vocals - lower volume, plus I used an amp for the back up vocals giving them a bit of a VOCoder/robotic feel - like the 80s! I also, though, widened the lead vocals, including the bridge.
3) In the final mix/mastering, I used the version with more low end.
4) Added L-R higher back up vocals on the second chorus and beyond to give it more punch.
5) Added simple piano jam in the outro (panned hard left) to bring more life/movement/build to the finish line.
[Chorus 2x]
Dance like the 80's with
beautiful ladies no
matter the decade
when you were born.
Believe it or not before the internet, there's a time we cannot forget.
With Rocky, Rambo, Raiders, too. Michael, Madonna, even U2.
A little guy with no cell to call home. Four dudes bustin' ghosts alone.
We carpe-diemed with Robin The Man. While Eddie played a cop in 9021-land.
Dancin' with flash, dancin' dirty. Learnin' to break wasn't so nerdy.
Mullets, mohawks, jheri curls. Puffs and perms for all the girls.
Said we'd drive Magnum's Ferrari, but spent all day playin' Atari.
Wanted one day to be Top Gun, and girls just wann'to have a lotta fun.
[Chorus]
Larry battled Magic in his Celtic green, but MJ was the greatest baller ever seen.
The more Joe played, the more he'd win, Drove the 49ers like DeLoreans.
Those 84 Games? Think on back. We all thought we'd fly our own jet pack.
MTV rocked our world. Prince did splits, music video unfurled.
Crockett and Tubbs put away bad guys. Cosby was pre-scandals and lies.
We cheered our Cheers, and loved our Boat. Even watched Murder She Wrote.
But it all started with the prez gettin' shot, two countries shoutin' bout weapons a lot.
Believe it or not, when ten years ends, a wall came down and we made some friends.
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
You young, you old. Don't matter. Be bold.
Just let the feeling of the 80s unfold.
You young, you old. Don't matter whatcha told.
Just let the feeling of the 80s grab hold.
[Chorus]
Hallelujah

Verse 1:
You swear that it’s true
And you tell everyone
There ain’t nothing new
Under the sun
Pre-Chorus:
Can’t you see our time is brief?
And don’t you know we come and go?
Now, haven’t you heard the song of eternity?
Chorus:
Hallelujah
Verse 2:
All your silver and gold
You got to leave it behind
With the gems of your soul
And the wealth of your mind
Pre-Chorus:
Can’t you see our time is fleeting?
And don’t you know we come and go?
Now, haven’t you heard the song of eternity?
Chorus:
Hallelujah

Red.
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
Racing down the street, daylight turning red
Can’t get the adrenaline, outta my head
Bringing up the speed, moving way to fast
Flames roaring thunder make me feel that Red
Off in the sky, red turning down
Dripping from my ears, it’s make in me drown
Color is shifting changing, diving way below
Black is all that’s left , and it’s taking its toll
[Chorus]
Ooooooo red, I should be red
Ooooooo red, I should be red
Why is it dulling out, makes me dread, Pulling back the speed
Ooooooo red, I should be red
[Verse 2]
Bring up eyes, looking far away
What is that shade, that, Brought me to Life
Feeling the drag, and its slowing me down
Ripping at my legs, I can’t touch the ground
[Solo]
[Bridge]
Sound and lights start to combine, Bring me to the point that I can’t define
what you do and say can take it’s toll, make you pump those brakes to stay in control
[Chorus]
[Bridge 2]]
Colors dimming and changing to black, where can I go to get red back Stay in the zone, don’t let life be a thief, keep living and breathing those colors deep
[Chorus]

V1
The orange glow of sunset, like a taste of fine wine
Finishes the day that he started at nine
His puppet strings are pulled way too tight
Some relief he’ll find in the coming night
Chorus 1
He needs something else from the life he lives
There has to be much more
He’s searching now to find the place
That he is looking for
That he is looking for
V2
No focus to his thoughts, he wanders aimlessly in the yard
He’s totally alone, won’t let down his guard
Chained to a job he’s hated for years
Now he’s just holding back tears
Chorus 2
He needs something else from the life he lives
There has to be much more
He’s searching now to find the place
That he’s still looking for
That he’s still looking for
Bridge
An empty desk at work tomorrow
He’ll follow what’s in his heart
They’ll wonder what happened to him
His new life’s about to start
Chorus 3
He’ll have pleasure from the life he’ll live
There will be so much more
He thinks he has found the place
That he was looking for
That he was looking for

I Knew Her When (revised)
Words and music: Jay Harris
She’s driving up, in our new suburban, kids all buckled up.
Talking on her phone she’s got appointments in the way, no time for us today, I guess that’s how it goes (or “not much left to say”).
But I recall, a time when she believed that I had it all. She used to hang on every word I’d want to say,
We’d talk the night away, then do it all again.
Oh yes I knew her when, everything was new and fast and fun and free.
And in each others’ eyes was as far as we could see.
And every night alone we shared each others dreams.
Oh yes I knew her when, I’d hold her close and we would dance around the room, I prayed it’d never end but now it’s gone and way too soon, yes I knew her when.
It’s hard to say, when it began to change and we just slipped away (or “It’s hard to say, when, but surely stuff got in the way.”) Having stuff to own became our new life in a way, no passion in the day, I guess I see it now.
So where to turn. To bring it up just causes words that only burn. Regretful hurts I wish had never left my mouth, feels like the whole thing’s going south, God help us change.
Chorus
Then she came over and I saw the look, touching my shoulder, that’s when her eyes turned up.
She said hey baby, what going on? You surely can’t be thinking that wer’e going wrong.
And she said do you remember when, everything was new and fast and fun and free, and in each others eyes was as far as we could see. And we promised we would hold on to our dreams.
Oh do you remember when , our best nights out were spent just staring at the stars, out in a moonlit field on the hood of your car, cos I remember when. Yes I remember when. I remember when.
i would go where you go

What if our world was dying
What if we could see its end
What if we were strangers on the street
meetin' for the first and we thought
we was all who was left.
What if all hope was lost?
And the birds were all long gone
Migratory paths to safer trees
and calmer lakes and sweeter songs
nested with family and love
What would you say to me?
Would you take my hand?
Would we climb the highest mountain we could find
and at the top try to start a new land.
CHORUS
I would go where you go
And I would stay where you stay
and your people would be my people
and I would get down on my knees and
I would thank heaven and the stars above
for a second chance
just to make it right.
to make things right
to make things right
Then what would you say to me?
Would you take my hand?
Would we climb the highest mountain we could find

Due Unto Mothers—Jim Gill
My mother she gave life to me and made sure I grew up right
And oh how she loved to tuck me in at night
She’d put a cold washrag on my brow when the fever laid me low
and taught me what she thought that I should know.
Do unto Mothers as you would have them do to you
return the favor for all she’s done and observe her golden rule
cause when you honor your mother all year round
and not just when Hallmark Cards says to
You’ll give what’s due unto your mother and show your gratitude.
A mother’s love can work miracles… turn a boy into a gentledude
turn a girl into a lady who knows just where to put which spoon
and when you begin to do for her the king of things for you she did
you'll give what’s due unto your mother and set an example for your kids.
One good turn deserves another
So turn down the sound and call your mother.
Do unto Mothers as you would have them do for you
return the favor for all she’s done and observe her golden rule
And honor your mother all year round not just one Sunday a year
Give what’s due unto your mother call her up and bend her ear.
So go pick up the phone and call your mother…..

OKLAHOMA LINE (revised 5/18/2020 -Thank you everyone for your suggestions!)
VERSE 1
I wore purple polka dots. You wore your favorite jeans
Underneath a yellow light bulb with the justice of the peace
We said the words “I Love you” and “I do”
Too young to wed in Texas, reckless fools
So we stood up together then we headed back to school.
Across the Oklahoma line
VERSE 2
With your arm around my shoulder and your shirt against my cheek
We crossed that old Red River and I fell fast asleep
The dusty wind blew hot across my face
As I dreamed about the life that we would make
Never did I dream we’d ever call it a mistake
To cross the Oklahoma line
CHORUS
Some nights are a melody
Playing end-less-ly on a track inside our minds
Memories, trapped in a photograph
Like that night so long ago when you were mine
The night we crossed the Oklahoma line
VERSE 3
I fell in love with motherhood. You fell in love with work
Then somewhere along the way you fell in love with her
I tried to pretend. You tried to stay
The distance grew greater every day
Soon there was nothing to remind us of the promises we made
Across the Oklahoma line
BRIDGE
I Still hear the melody. Do you ever think of me?
VERSE 4
As the wedding march begins I catch your eye across the aisle
Your hair is gray but still you have that slightly crooked smile
I feel your shirt against my skin again
I taste the dusty air and smell the wind
As we watch our daughter take the vows that we took then
Across the Oklahoma line
REPEAT CHORUS
TAG
Like that night so long ago when you were mine
Across the Oklahoma line
So Long Ago

V1:
When I look back in time
I can picture you there
With the sun in your eye
And the wind in your hair
Pre-Chorus:
Oh, seems like yesterday
But it’s oh so long ago
Chorus:
It was oh so long ago
V2:
We were innocent together
In our hearts, in our souls
We were gonna live forever
We were never growing old
Pre-Chorus:
Oh, seems like yesterday
But it’s oh so long ago
Bridge:
Do you remember me?
Chorus:
It was oh so long ago
RED LIGHT CAMERA SONG, Stop Guessing on Red
May
H. F, Van Der Grinten
2020
Red light camera’s gotta go
That red light camera’s gotta go
Camerar’s gotta go
Driven down the road.
Oh, yellow light’s on.
When is it going red?
Is that camera gonna get me?
I really don’t know.
Red light camera’s gotta go
Red light camera’s gotta go
Red light camera’s gotta go
Did I blink at the wrong time?
Am I driving too fast?
Can I stop or can I go?
I really don’t know.
Is that camera’s gonna get me?
I really can’t see
Oh red light camera’s gotta go
Red light camera’s gotta go
I said red light camera’s gotta go
Don’t ya know
My crystal ball is broke.
My future isn’t good, no
Should I stop or should I go?
Is that camera’s gonna get me?
I don’t know.
Red light camera’s gotta go
Red light camera’s gotta go
Red light camera’s gotta go
Oh, don’t ya know
Aint no yellow light prophet
My guessing’s not for sure
Don’t know when that red light’s coming
Oh I can’t play this game no more.
Those red light cameras gotta go.
Till then I’m going to stop guessing on red.
Gonna stop guessing on red.
Gonna stop on yellow instead.
Gonna stop on yellow instead.
Gonna stop on yellow instead, instead, instead, instead.
Gonna stop on yellow instead.

Lyrics by H. F. Van Der Grinten
Vocalist and Melody Zelda Dashiell
Recording by Yard Sound Studios
The theme of this song is that red light cameras merely turn traffic lights into guessing games. They do nothing to reduce the most serious accidents at intersections which are commonly caused by distracted or impaired drivers. These drivers are oblivious to both the traffic light and the presence of a red light camera.
This method of enforcement mainly targets inadvertent violations and actually administers punishment for the crime of failing to be clairvoyant. It mostly provides revenue from the driving public by the method of random selection.
We are currently working on distributing this song to jurisdictions such as Chicago where RLCs are still in use.

Chalice
quite by surprise, i caught her eye
and she smiled
had to agree the day she said to me
“don’t you think it’s time?”
i said what you see is what i got
what i do is like as not what i please
may not have a lot to say,
what i do say is likely what i mean to say
and i love you
it’s not right or wrong or fair, scratching eyes and pulling hair
changing faces
given time things are gonna be just fine
you wait and see
‘cause what you see is what i got
what i do is like as not what i please
plain to see that you’re the same
do believe that’s how i ever came to say
things like “i love you,” things like “i do.”
knock me off my chair, baby blues and curly hair
cheerios all over the floor in the morning
won’t you take a look and see, well they say he even looks like me
poor little guy
i tell him what you see is what i got
what i do is like as not what i please
may not have a lot to say,
what i do say is likely what i mean to say
like sayin’ i love you, Lord knows i do!

V1
His house is cold and empty now without her by his side
Quilted covers she made are soaked with tears he cried
The hardwood floors are worn out from the nights of counting sheep
She pulled the wool over his eyes with the vows she couldn’t keep
Chorus
He’s a broken boy from a broken home like the one he grew up in
Never thought he’d feel unloved, on his own again
He’s a broken boy …..
V2
Only sixteen when they met, scared and all alone
Looking for what she never had, a place she belonged
She thought she’d found someone she could love and trust
No matter what she did it wasn’t good enough
Chorus
She’s a broken girl from a broken home like the one she grew up in
Never thought she’d be called those nasty names again …..
She’s a broken girl ……
Bridge
Sometimes it’s hard to break away
From how your life had been
End up repeating the same old ugly things
It’s a losing game, nobody wins….
Out Chorus
He’s a broken boy from a broken home like the one he grew up in
Never thought he’d feel unloved, on his own again
He’s a broken boy ……
She’s a broken girl from a broken home like the one she grew up in
Never thought she’d be called those nasty names again
She’s a broken girl…..

In the glove box of my car
I found a note
I was taken back in time
By what you wrote
The times that we had
Rushed back to me
Young love, budding new
And fancy free
Chorus 1
Saturday night cruisin’ Main
Driving it again and again
You by my side, ‘til we tired of the ride
Then on to lovers lane
V2
College took you away
You found someone new
It took some time
but I got over you
There are no regrets
So it seems
Looking back are they
Only dreams
Chorus 2 (same as 1)
Bridge
Distance and time
put a strain on the heart
That slowly drew us apart
Chorus 3
Saturday night cruisin’ main
Driving it again and again
You by my side, until we tired of the ride
I wish for lovers’ lane

Midnight Madonna (Paul Boedeker)
intro
(refrain)
Who has the next dance with the midnight madonna
make-believe romance second to none
she told me you never quite get what you came for
luck ain't a lady when love ain't around
and the midnight madonna is in her calico gown
v1
She likes the wild eyed rough ridin' cowboy type
once had a lover but love let her down
he left and she cried somethin' broke inside
she walks the shadows on the night side of town
the midnight madonna in her calico gown
(repeat refrain)
v2
She'll take what you give her for the time you spend with her
lift you up and lay you so gently back down
what haunts you mostly, a vision so ghostly
to awake and madonna ain't nowhere around
just the quiet soft rustle of her calico gown
(repeat refrain)
line 3 she asked me point blank, "Did you get what you came for?"
(don’t forget what you came for)
Angels Arise
April
Melanie Broussard
2020
Inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s first inaugural address
We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land will yet swell the chorus of the Union when again touched as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature
This song calls on all of us to invoke and indeed become the better angels of our nature.
ANGELS ARISE
Words and Music
copyright 2019 by Melanie E Broussard
The earth will quake
And the ground will shake
All of us to our foundations
Til we learn to raise our vibrations
Angels arise, angels arise.
Evil travels across these stormy skies
Angels arise, angels arise
Give us the strength to win this fight
One fist raised in rage
Changes nothing in any age
But one hand raised in love
Changes everything below and above
Angels arise, angels arise.
Evil travels across these stormy skies
Angels arise, angels arise
Give us the courage to do what is right
Angels arise, angels arise.
Evil travels across these stormy skies
Angels arise, angels arise
Give us the courage to do what is right

Today I saw
my friend get taken
By the big bad It
that's out there
I rallied our friends
To try and save him
And in the direction they went
We made chase there.
CHORUS
And so we tried to save him
Yes we tried to get him back
We swooped and dived to save him
Yes we tried.
Yes we tried
If it was minutes it felt like day t he battle raged on
When we found our friend the It had taken hold
His ravaged body limp and barely hanging on
Our friends they left frightened of what they saw
CHORUS
But still I tried to save him
Still I tried to get him back
I swooped and dived to save him
Yes I tried. Yes I tried.
Alone and crazed I stayed and fought the good fight
But it was in vain. His eyes dimmed as they met mine
The It consumed his flesh and slowly dined
My friend gave up his ghost and I said goodbye
CHORUS
But still I tried to save him
Yes I tried to get him back
I swooped and dived to save him
Yes I tried. Yes I tried.
Today I saw my friend get taken

Anne Marie, you’re such a sight to see
Anne Marie, you’re always so good to me
But I was cruel
And such a fool
My heart and soul untrue
Anne Marie, I forgot to be good to you
Anne Marie, you’re the shoreline and I’m the sea
Anne Marie, now it’s dry where the water should be
Where’d it all go?
Oh, I should know
But I haven’t got a clue
Anne Marie, I forgot to be there for you
I won’t let you down
This time I promise
I won’t let you down
This time it’s honest
I won’t let you down
This time I promise
I won’t let you down anymore
Anne Marie, in this storm you’re my sanctuary
Anne Marie, now it’s late and I can’t find the key
But darling when
It rains again
I’ll run back home to you
Anne Marie, I forgot to be someone new
I won’t let you down
This time I promise
I won’t let you down
This time it’s honest
I won’t let you down
This time I promise
I won’t let you down anymore
Anne Marie, you’re such a sight to see
Anne Marie, you’ve always been good to me
But I was cruel

Jack’s Bridge Bait
Dan DeHart
Verse 1
Just South of Houston, near Surfside Beach,
Under the bridge, there’s a shrimper outside
Just a waterfront dive it would appear,
With a good boat launch and real cold beer
Jack holds court from a table at the rear,
always smiling, ear to ear
So come on in any time of the year,
And pitch your trouble right off’a Jack’s pier
=====================
Chorus
At Bridge Bait you can have a lot of fun
At Bridge Bait you can bring your own rum
At Bridge Bait you can come as you are
At Bridge Bait you can play Jack’s guitar
At Bridge Bait there is no Tiki bar
At Bridge Bait you can smoke a big cigar
At Bridge Bait you can spend the afternoon
At Bridge Bait you can howl at the moon
=========================
Verse 2
The music is loud, they play for tips,
Or for free when they get ripped
They don’t sell grub, only cookies and chips,
But people bring food in a covered dish
You can see the game on the satellite dish
Or watch those anglers cleaning their fish
Listen to lies about the one that got away,
and how they’ll have’m in the box one day
==============================
Break
=======================
So don’t take my word for it, see for yourself, it is like no place else
Leave your stress at the door, it doesn’t really matter if it rains or pours
