Ship Too Small
Dan DeHart 2021

Set out to cross the Gulf of Mexico in a small sailboat from the Florida Keys
The forecast called for fair winds and following seas
Casting off in a summer breeze, saying our prayers, down on our knees
A thousand miles to Galveston Bay, seemed like a mighty long way
=============================
CHORUS
The ocean’s so big and our ship is so small, the salesman said I’d be no problem at all
Please take my word for it, you won’t have fun on a ship too small
===================================
Two days out not a cloud in sight, on our rhumb line, star filled night
sails well-trimmed, sheeted in tight, everything seemed alright
Came the morning came, seas began to build, wind freshened up and barometer fell
Tried to shorten sail, but not in time, worried out of our minds
==================
CHORUS
The ocean’s so big and our ship is so small, the salesman said I’d be no problem at all
Please take my word for it, you won’t have fun on a ship too small
===================
Lead break
================
Ran out of food before landfall, so glad to see Galveston Bay
Dripping wet for 8 straight days straight, it was all we could take
Found cold beer at a waterfront dive, pretty soon we were feeling alive
Heard some Buffett in a local bar, thank God we had survived
================
CHORUS
The ocean’s so big and our ship is so small, the salesman said I’d be no problem at all
Please take my word for it, you won’t have fun on a ship too small
Tag
Never again on a ship to small. Go the ditch or don’t do it at all

Honey-Do

Honey-do © Ray Wyatt 2021 (3 C on 2 in C)

There’s a leak at the peak of my rooftop
And the rain gathers right above my bed
I could nail up a shingle, but I would miss the tingle
When the water drips down on my head
I suppose I could make repairs or patch up those creaky stairs
Or hammer out the six-penny by the ton

I guess it’s just another Honey-do gone undone

I see weeds that are growing in our garden
And robbing the crops of the sun
I guess I should dig them up before they get big
And ruin work that we’ve done
They choke out the greenery
They tarnish the scenery
And steal all the progress we’ve won

I guess it’s just another Honey-do gone undone

B> Broken foundations and old squeaky doors
Did we get just get lazy or did we get bored
I’ve not said I love you, or looked in your eyes
Or held you so tightly if ever you cry

I guess it’s just another Honey-do gone undone

There’s an ache and a shiver in my broken heart
And I feel it every time I look at you
I won’t complain, but will you please explain
What else on earth I’m supposed to do?
I’ll put my heart into it, and you reach out a little bit
We can have our day in the sun

I guess it’s just another Honey-do gone undone
Goodbye, Autumn Leaves

October

Zane Nordin

Goodbye, Autumn Leaves
-
All the leaves are falling now
Autumn lays her colors down
Red and Yellow-Golden Sounds
When Autumn comes to Play
-
All the leaves are falling to the ground
Autumn lays her blankets all around
Harvest scenes and Halloween
Howling wind will sound when
All the leaves are falling to the ground
-
All of the leaves are falling now
Autumn, again has come to Play
Colors of Fall, red golden brown
But, the wind blows
The wind blows
The wind knows
Autumn can never stay
-
All the leaves are falling to the ground
Autumn colors everywhere around
Piling snow and mistletoe and barren trees abound
When all the leaves have fallen to the ground
-
All of the leaves are falling now
-
Falling leaves and barren trees
Are signs of the times, the
Piling snow and mistletoe
Appear to remind us
The Winter comes
The Winter comes
-
All the leaves have fallen to the ground
Autumn colors nowhere to be found
Red and Yellow, Gray to Black
Orange into Brown
When all the leaves have fallen to the ground
All of the leaves are falling now
Autumn can only say, 'Goodbye'
-
All the leaves are falling to the ground
-
All the leaves have fallen now
Autumn's colors can't be found
Howling Wind the only Sound
When Autumn Goes Away

Up and Down Your Ladder
Patricia Bishop and Jesse Navarro © March 2021

V1
I know I did you wrong many moons ago
I told you I was sorry, wouldn’t do it anymore
You said you’d forgive me, in time you’d forget
But years have gone by, you haven’t done it yet

Chorus
I’m tired of running up and down your ladder of
Forgiveness and forget
If I jump a step ahead you push me two steps back
I can’t keep living like that

V2
I’ve walked the line every day since then
No matter what I do, you get your sweet revenge
I try to bury the past but you keep digging it up
Now there comes a time when enough is enough

Chorus 2x
I’m tired of running up and down your ladder of
Forgiveness and forget
If I jump a step ahead you push me two steps back
I can’t keep living like that

(Music Break)

Bridge
If we’re ever gonna get through this
Burn that ladder now so it doesn’t exist

Chorus
I’m tired of running up and down your ladder of
Forgiveness and forget
If I jump one step ahead you push me two steps back
I can’t keep livin’ like that

Tag 2X
When things don’t go your way
Up and down your ladder
Is the game you like to play
Up and down your ladder

Up and down, up and down your ladder
More Than A Memory

October

Buddy Trotter

2021

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I changed a couple of words in the first two lines, gave the girl a name, and revised V2 and PC 2 to tell more of a story, to hopefully make the song better!

-----

V1
I was spellbound the first time I saw her
An angelic beauty with a confident stance
I can’t remember the first words I said
It might have been, “Would you like to dance?”

PC1
We slow-danced real close, I asked “What’s your name?”
She smiled as she said, “You Tarzan, Me Jane.”

Chorus 1
I look back on happier days, forgotten as many will be
I may be just a memory to her, but she’s more than a memory to me

V2
She made me feel so special
As the love between us seemed to grow
Over time, her love for me began to fade
But I didn’t want to let her go

PC2
I couldn’t get her to stay with me, I tried all that I knew
Then I realized that we were through

Chorus 2
I look back on sadder days, when I thought about what might be
I may be just a memory to her, but she’s more than a memory to me

Bridge
I keep her picture on a shelf, I straighten it now and then
When people ask me who it is, I say, “It’s just a friend.”

Chorus 3
I’ll look forward to better days, when my heart might be set free
I may be just a memory to her, but she’s more than a memory to me
She’s more than a memory to me

I'm Not Crazy (I'm Just In Love)

I’M NOT CRAZY (I’M JUST IN LOVE)

verse 1
My friends say I’ve gone crazy. Not the same man that I was.
That the things I say and do aren’t what a sane man says or does.
When they say that I’ve gone crazy, here’s what I remind them of:
I’m not crazy. I’m just in love.

verse 2
I don’t stay out late on Friday night. Instead, I’m in bed by ten.
I floss my teeth each morning, and each night I floss again.
Exercise and watch my diet. Got my future to think of.
I’m not crazy. I’m just in love.

chorus
I’m not crazy. I’m just in love.
I’ve been hit by Cupid’s arrow / lover’s lightning / a ton of lovin’ from above.
If you see me acting madly, and wonder what I’m thinking of,
I’m not crazy. I’m just in love.

verse 3
I picked my clothes up off the floor and folded them real nice.
I found a financial planner, and I follow his advice.
I brought home brand new furniture, gave my La-Z-Boy a shove.
I’m not crazy. I’m just in love.
chorus

bridge
I suppose I’m kinda diff’rent. I suppose I might have changed.
I suppose some of my old friends might think I am acting strange.
I suppose that that’s what happens when love comes over you.
I suppose if I could see myself, I’d think I’m crazy too!

chorus

My Father's Knife

October

Wallace Chase

2021

My Father’s Knife, by Wallace Chase

I came down from the mountain
to set my people free.
Stepped out from behind the clouds
so they could look on me.
I prayed to the pagan gods,
petitioned them for love.
But when I got their answer
it rained fire from above.

In darkness for a hundred years,
my people hid away,
digging holes into the ground
and trading light for pain.
But the youngest of the tribe
just would not understand,
so she picked up the fire and just held it
in her hands.

I got the Sun Gods,
Spitting fire at me.
I got the God of Mercy
losing her patience with me.
And I offer up my sacrifice
And I drink the blood of my father’s knife.
But they still keep on trying to burn me down.

So I took the lightning
and hammered glowing steel.
Came back from underground
with a sword and a shield.

I flew up to the Elder Star
for the Gathering of Kings.
And I swung my blade ‘til the point was made
we’re not surrendering.

I got the Sun Gods,
Spitting fire at me.
I got the God of Mercy
losing her patience with me.
And I offer up my sacrifice
And I drink the blood of my father’s knife.
But they still keep on trying to burn me down.

I broke the chains my people wore.
and I blessed the land they’re fighting for.
I brought back their identity.
Gave them Love and Liberty.
I held their faces to the sky.
And I proved them worthy of the Light.
I pressed my lips against their face.
Healed their sick with my embrace.
Sealed the ancient sacred scroll.
Returned the ring their captor stole.
Showed them their Divinity.
I spoke the truth, now they believe.

I got the Sun Gods,
Spitting fire at me.
I got the God of Mercy,
Losing her patience with me.
And I offer up my sacrifice
And I drink the blood of my father’s knife.
But they still keep on trying to burn me down.

I got the Sun Gods
Spitting fire at me.
I got the God of Mercy
losing her patience with me.
And I offer up my sacrifice,
And I drink the blood of my father’s knife.
But they still keep on trying to burn me down.

Best Laid Plan

I like whiskey, She likes wine
I like her frisky, She don’t mind
Getting down to the business at hand
She’s my best laid-plan

I used to drift alone in the clouds
head in the stars feet off the ground
Like a leaf on a breeze anyway the wind blows bound
She snapped me up set me down
saved my soul turned me around
I’m pleased to announce I’m finally found
She’s my best laid-plan

She likes brandy, I like rum,
She likes candy, gives me some
Getting down to the business at hand
She’s my best laid-plan

She’s my Princess I’m her Prince
Loving her makes perfect sense
Forever at her beck and call

We ain’t worried ‘bout highbrow needs
We ain’t in to all that greed
We fit together she and me
She’s my best laid-plan

I like whiskey, She likes wine
I like her frisky, She don’t mind
She likes brandy, I like rum,
She likes candy, gives me some
I like Tequila, she likes Bud
I like to steal away in her love
She likes Vodka I like Scotch
She likes spicy I like hot

Looks Like Rain

Zane Nordin

2021

I'm always workin' over time
I'm always on the run
There ain't never enough hours in the day
But, I give 'Thanks' for everything
With each job to be done
And, I don't need stormy weather
a-Gettin' in the way
But, the way things have been goin' these days ...
-
It Looks like rain
It's gonna fall
There'll be no sun
To shine after all
Cold, dark clouds have filled the sky
Thunder roll, the ravens call
And, it Looks like a rain
-
I always want to be there for her
I know she needs her man
She knows just how much
That I need her too
I need her, too
This old road it keeps a takin' me
So far away from her that
No matter what the weather that
They may say on the radio (Clear and Sunny today in Nashville)
There's one thing I already know
-
It looks like rain
It's gonna fall
There'll be no sunshine
In her smile, after all
Cold, dark clouds will fill her eyes
Thunder roll, the raven call
It looks like rain, rain
Like ra-a-a-ain
It looks like ra-a-ain
It's gonna fall
There'll be no sunshine
No sunshine after all
Cold, dark clouds have filled the sky
Thunder roll and ravens call
It looks like rain, rain
It Looks like rain
Monster

September

Cheryl Cawood

2021

It took a minute to find the right vein
To fly me away, away from my pain
Now chasing high, is my only intent
I should deny But I’m hell bent
My sensible mind don’t make sense anymore
Euphoria controls, rocks me to my core
Where is my soul, what is my worth?
I’m asking God for a chance on this earth

Free me from this monster, give me new breath
Wish I could live without regret
Calm this storm within me, turn my dark to light
Am I ready to change, am I ready to fight?

Solo (verse)

Sweet Lucille, she’s been through hell
Wasting away in dark, dank, jails
Her arms have scars from needle tracks
She fell so far there was no coming back
One last time one last line I swear
My messed up mind is barely there and I don’t care
Surviving the streets it sucks to be me
Will I find a way to shake this beast?

Verse 1
Mama’s in the kitchen, cookin’ rice and beans
Daddy’s out in the field, dustin’ off his jeans
Sister’s in the bathroom, getting’ ready for a date
Little brother’s playing streetball, he’s gonna be home late

Chorus 1
It was a simpler time
A Coke was just a dime
It’s a day we’ll never see again
I’m glad I grew up then

Verse 2
Little brother rides his bike in the morning out to play
Skipping rocks on the pond, might stay there all day
To make a lot of noise, baseball cards in the spokes
Gotta be home by supper to eat with the folks

Chorus 2
It was a simpler time
We didn’t see much crime
It’s a day we’ll never see again
I’m glad I grew up then

Bridge
They were simpler times, we all agree
Nights were easy goin’, and days seemed carefree

Verse 3
Mama leaves the kitchen, she has some things to mend
Daddy’s on the sofa, TV news about to end
Sister’s at the soda fountain, slurpin’ up a malt
Little brother’s not included; it’s really not his fault

Chorus 3
It was a simpler time
There was no Amazon Prime
It’s a day we’ll never see again
I’m glad I grew up then
I’m glad I grew up then

Overwhelming sensation
try to behave
can’t help but crave

she do the “Jezebel flaunt”
she knows what you want

Inevitable frustration
can’t keep what you have

get out of the garden
lock up the gate
that one bad apple
that’s the one you ate

Self-incrimination
on your face written large
guilty as charged

Unavoidable damnation
left with nothin’ to show
you played touch and go
With temptation

bet it all and lose
but bet it all you will

We Gotta Do Something

Jay Harris

2021

The world is filled with all kinds of people, nobody made the same.
The difference is thin, the thickness of paper, wer’e separated by our names.
Strange days have lead us down a pathway, some say so it's not so bright.
Too many ways to share what we're thinking, hard to know wrong or right.
I hear all sides, I hear all cries,
But hope remains, in spite of the pain, understanding might help us unite.
The chattering noise, we have to avoid, coming at us day and night
Can’t give in, I believe in the end, everything will work out right.

Makes me scream , makes me shout, man what the hell is this all about?
Covid haze, fake news days,
Man we gotta do something the world needs something to change.

My Mama says she don’t understand it, but the world didn’t change overnight.
Life back then may have looked simple, we kept our hurts out of sight.
All worked hard, some did better , some needed help in the fight.
Prosperous times never were equal but most folks did alright.
They were good days, solid life ways.
Yes they were, all would concur, red, yellow, black or white.
Sadly today, we tip toe our way, better watch what you say.
Feeling bad, for what you have, the new flavor of the day.

Makes her scream, makes her shout, man what the hell is this all about?
Values drained, washed away.
Yea we gotta do something, the world needs something to change.

Fear not Jesus said and I think he meant it, in Mark Matthew Luke and John
Worry today does nothing for tomorrow, so lift your head high and strong.
You see life is eternal, none of this matters, and ignorance don’t make it right
Pushing your ways on folk who don’t want it, might as well turn out the lights.

Makes me scream, makes me shout, man what the hell is this all about.
Wer’e the same, God’s a name
Yea we gotta do something, the world needs something to change.

Feeling The Same Way Too
Patricia Bishop and Jesse Navarro ©2020

V1
Thinking back many years ago way before we even met
Heard about forever love though I hadn’t felt it yet

When I first laid eyes on you that sizzling summer day
I felt excitement deep inside, completely blew me away

Chorus
I thought my heart would jump out of my chest
I had trouble trying to catch my breath
Each and every day when I looked at you
I’d get that feeling, hoped you were feeling the same way, too

V2
Not afraid of the bumpy roads that we’d sometimes drive across
Always knew our forever love would smooth it all out for us

When I browse through pictures of us walking down the aisle
It takes me back to how I felt when you said “I do” then smiled

Chorus
I thought my heart would jump out of my chest
I had trouble trying to catch my breath
Each and every day when I looked at you
I’d get that feeling, hoped you were feeling the same way, too

Music Break

V3
Then only yesterday renewing our vows in front of family and friends
I could see your beautiful face, memories coming back again

Chorus
I thought my heart would jump out of my chest
I had trouble trying to catch my breath
Each and every day when I look at you
I get that feeling, hope you are feeling the same way, too
I hope you are feeling the same way, too

Oh, I can’t forget that season
So many lifetimes ago
When you appeared to me
By the sounding sea
On the cliffs of a windy plateau

Oh, I fought for you that summer
So many devils I slew
And I promised the stars
Would someday be ours
And my heart would ever be true

Tonight you’re sleeping alone
In the quiet ground
Underneath a stone
Tonight you’re sleeping alone

Oh, the wingèd seraphs of heaven
Jealous of you and of me
They came down and stole
Your spotless soul
And laid you to rest by the sea

Now the lifetimes they come and they go
And eternity takes oh, so long
So I sing, my dear
Though I know you can’t hear
Yes I sing to you this old song

Tonight you’re sleeping alone
In the quiet ground
Underneath a stone
Tonight you’re sleeping alone

I would love to
Lay beside you
Till the ends of time

Tonight you’re sleeping alone
In the quiet ground
Underneath a stone
Tonight you’re sleeping alone
Alabama

Linda Daline Chirin Limbaugh

He had charm and big ideas and he was kind
Deep blue eyes, a dimpled chin and a bright mind
A1C Air Force is what’s written above where he lies, far away
From Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

Second son from over a dozen farmer’s kids
His Dad lost his leg on a tractor before he was even ten
They pecked and scratched for every dollar that they could get, far away
In Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

Drafted to Vietnam with his brother when he was a teen
Came back injured, couldn’t settle down, went traveling
Grew out his hair, back to school with political dreams, far away
From Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

Eyes like mine
He never saw me in his life, mystery man
from Alabama, Alabama, Alabama
He was from Alabama

He came back a few times, sometimes with a wife
The drinks and drugs got bad, dimming his bright light
Lost his baby girl after an ugly courtroom fight, way back home
In Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

Back on the road, picking fruit and wandering
Headed to Montgomery was the last time he was seen
He became a memory even though he was still living, far away
from Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

The injury back from Vietnam finally did him in
Signed in at the hospital and said he had no next of kin
Don’t know if he was still at war or had made peace within, far away
From Alabama, Alabama, Alabama,
He was from Alabama

Rest his soul
Even though he never made it back home
To Alabama, Alabama, Alabama
He was from Alabama

When I was in college, speaking my mind and protesting
My mother told me I was reminding her of him
Trail of broken dreams and years spent wandering, far away
From Alabama, Alabama, Alabama
He was from Alabama
Guess I'm from Alabama

You & Home*REVISED*

Revisions: Tried to slow it down (working on my tempos). Rewrote the lyrics to tell more of a story and added a bridge. Thank you all for the feedback!

You & Home

Last words you spoke
Echo in my mind
As I stand on the shore
Can’t believe your gone
Now I realize
I should have listened more
Well, I'm not here
To cry all these tears
You raised me stronger than that
To be resilient. Have perseverance.
But man, it's hard looking back.

Chorus

At us riding down the dirt road
In your pick-up truck
To our favorite fishing spot
Listening to Merle Haggard
On the radio
Having father/daughter talks
Now finding out today that you are gone
Leaves me missing you and home

Old photographs
Gave us a good laugh
Oh the memories we shared
If I could just hop in
That picture from back then
I'd tell you how much I care

Bridge:

Oh there’ll never be another you
Our life wasn’t easy
But to tell you the truth
I’m missing
I’m missing
I’m missing
You

Chorus

And Riding down the dirt road
In your pick-up truck
To our favorite fishing spot
Listening to George Jones
On the radio
Having father/daughter talks
Oh, finding out today that you are gone
Leaves me missing you and home

Ooooo, missing you and home.
Ooooo, missing you and home

** I WAS SITTING IN A COFFEE SHOP / HAVING ME A CUP
IN WALKS A REAL CUTIE / AND SAYS TO ME WHATS UP
** I TURNED AROUND AND LOOKED BEHIND / FOR SOMEONE I DIDNT SEE
I TURNED BACK AROUND WE WERE FACE TO FACE / AND HER HAND WAS ON MY KNEE
** SHE SAID HONEY YOU GOT ANY MONEY / WANNA HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME
I SAID HONEY I GOT NO MONEY / THIS COFFEE WAS ONLY A DIME
** SHE TOOK HER HAND OFF MY KNEE / TURNED AND STARTED TO LEAVE
HALFWAY ACROSS THE FLOOR SHE STOPPED / AND SLOWLY WALKED BACK TO ME
** SHE SAID HONEY YOU GOT NO MONEY / AND I GOT NO PLACE TO BE
COME ON OVER TO MY PLACE / WE CAN SET AND WATCH TV
** MAN MY EGO GOT REAL BIG / LEAVING WITH THIS HONEY
IM GOING HOME WITH A REAL BEAUTY / AND I AIN'T GOT NO MONEY
** WE SAT DOWN ON THE COUCH / AND TURNED ON THE BIG TV
I COULDN'T TELL YOU WHAT WAS ON / CUZ SHE WAS ALL OVER ME
** I AWOKE IN THE MORNING / SO TIRED I COULD HARDLY SEE
DID THIS REALLY HAPPEN / OR WAS IT ALL A DREAM
** I QUICKLY GOT DRESSED AND BLEW HER A KISS / AND QUITELY HEADED OUT
I DIDN'T WANT TO WAKE HER UP / BUT SHE DIDN’T CARE NO DOUBT
** I THANKED HER POLITELY UNDER MY BREATH / FOR BEING SUCH A HONEY
I SHUT THE DOOR AND OFF I WENT / AND DIDN'T COST ME NO MONEY.

Little Man

August

Ray Wyatt

2021

There’s a little man who whispers in my ear
Telling me these awful things I don’t want to hear
No one else can see him, but I know he’s always there
That little man who whispers in my ear

He says that I am worthless and a fool
He tells me that I’m selfish and stubborn as a mule
He tugs upon my shoulders, just like a puppeteer
That little man who whispers in my ear

B1>He keeps me wide awake most every evening
Staring at the ceiling from my bed
Reprimanding me my habits and behavior
Stirring up the trouble in my head

He tells me I make terrible mistakes
He says I should step on the gas when I should hit the brakes.
If I need a helping hand he will disappear
That little man who whispers in my ear.

One day maybe I will find a way
To make him pack his dreadful bags and send him far away
Until then I’ll just settle for the heckles, taunts and jeers
From that little man who whispers in my ear.

B2>Silent nights are made for dogs and babies
Slumbering through hurricanes and quakes
Without the constant shame and condemnation
For all of their transgressions and mistakes

Without Clipped Wings (Tammy's Song)

August

Cheryl Cawood

2021

By the time she turned five she was identified As being slow. They called her retard
Not the same as us, her wires somehow crossed, I was the baby
Believe me it was hard .. but I know

She could be anything, anything
Without clipped wings

One day when I got home, she was crying all alone. Once again the focus of the joke
The pain of feeling dumb, that thought leaves me numb, bewildered
Her blameless heart was broken.. I sang

You can be anything, anything
Without clipped wings

Cut feathers keep a songbird from flying stronger Its true mean words carry weight
She’s stuck somewhere between, Her plumes, they are not preened. She is enough. She’s part of God’s grace, she sings

In my mind I’ll take to the sky
Where I can soar and fly
I can be anything, anything
Without clipped wings

I wish the whole world could see
She’s the same kind of different as you and me.

She can be anything, anything
Without clipped wings

Just Another Guitar

JUST ANOTHER GUITAR © 2021, Warren Hanson

verse 1
It was just another guitar. Couple handfuls of wood and wire.
But the hands that held that wood and wire were mine.
For just over fifty years, that guitar was always near me.
Tried to play her ev’ry day if I had the time.
Then I got careless, for just a couple days.
Someone broke in and stole my old guitar away.

chorus
Now it’s just another stolen guitar.
Someone will buy it in some pawn shop or online.
Police called it a petty crime. Said it happens all the time.
Just another stolen guitar — but this one was mine.

verse 2
She was with me in the coffee houses, bible camps, and bars,
Playing old songs, and some new ones I would write.
In the daytime, she would wait while I was working, sometimes late.
But she’d forgive me, then she’d sing with me at night.
My music will be different from now on,
Something missing from each song now that she’s gone.

chorus
bridge
Like saying just another baby, just another bride.
They make a million more most ev’ry day.
But just like ev’ry baby, just like ev’ry bride,
Ev’ry one is dear to someone. That guitar was dear to me in that same way.

verse 3
Now I got another guitar, and it’s okay, so far.
But I don’t have another fifty years to play it.
If my old guitar came back to me, would it be the same?
Or would I have a hard time… I hate to say it.
After that bad man had held her in his hands,
Would her impurity be more than I could stand?

chorus
Would she be just another…

We took the lyrics out of the bridge, and re-wrote the last verse. Hope the song is more fun now. Thanks for the suggestions!
…….

V1
A Valentine gift out in the hall was a brand-new vacuum cleaner
As she saw it for the first time, there was a change in her demeanor
She composed herself, and then she said, “It forces me to coin a phrase”

C1
What the Hell were you thinkin’
What on earth were you drinkin’
Do you really honestly think this gift is right?
What the Hell were you thinkin’
I got a feelin’ that’s sinkin’
I don’t think it’s going to be a good night tonight

V2
As he got up one morning, his favorite shoes were not in their normal place
His wife said, “I threw them out; they looked bad and were such a disgrace.”
He composed himself, and then he said, “It forces me to coin a phrase”

C2
What the Hell were you thinkin’
What on earth were you drinkin’
Why did you toss my shoes in the trash can?
What the Hell were you thinkin’
I got a feelin’ that’s sinkin’
Now I gotta go chase the garbage man

Instrumental Bridge

V3
The phone rang, she answered, and heard a nervous voice on the line
He was arrested for protesting with his buddies at the Confederate shrine
She composed herself, and then she said, “It forces me to coin a phrase”

C3
What the Hell were you thinkin’
What on earth were you drinkin’
Why couldn’t you just collect signatures?
What the Hell were you thinkin’
I got a feelin’ that’s sinkin’
I don’t think your jail allows visitors
And I’m not in the mood to be a good listener

TIKI BAR BLUES
By Dan Dehart 2019

V1
I just built this Tiki Bar out by my pool
While I did, all I thought about was you
It’s got a thatched straw roof that overhangs the bar
So, when it rains, I can still play my guitar

V2
It’s happy hour at my Tiki Bar
It’s not too far, come as you are
I’ll play ya’ love songs written from my heart
Let’s make up, before I fall apart

Chorus
We don’t need no Caribbean Cruise
Or a place with perfect sunset views
I can’t stand these Tiki Bar Blues
I just wanna be at my Tiki Bar with you.

Instrumental

Refrain
I’m all alone here staring at my phone
Waiting on your call, so I wrote you this song

I had this at HSA in 2016 but have come back to it recently due to the pandemic
and the isolation that has gone along with it. New ears bring different ideas and
interpretations of the same song. Thought I would bring it back for another listen.

HUMAN
Words and Music c2016 Melanie E Broussard

We swing the hammers in fear building ever higher walls
Through the noise we fail to hear our brother’s calls
Safe behind the stone, all alone, all alone.

When we hold another’s hand on a troubled night
And when we make a stand in a righteous fight
The walls crumble and its done..

We’re human, human

We put ourselves in bubbles and then we float along
Never hearing of another’s troubles or knowing something’s wrong
Bubbles in a safe zone, still alone, still alone

Bobbing up and down in all that raw emotion
Bubbles floating around in the same ocean
Burst the bubbles and its done..

We’re human, human

Burst the bubbles crush the stone
No longer alone, no longer alone.

Well hello there everyone
We’re human, human

V1
She used to dream of being a queen, living happily ever after
Like the books she read about, love, romance and rapture

He used to dream of being a king in a bright shining armor
He’d slay the dragon with his sword, carry her off and save her

Chorus
Life would be so beautiful
Life would be so beautiful
So …….. beautiful
Life would be so beautiful

V2
(Now) The alarm goes off five thirty in the morning
She wakes up the kids while the biscuits are still warming

He takes the dog for a morning run around the block
Hurries home, puts on his uniform, and leaves about 6 o’clock

Chorus
And life is still so beautiful
Life is still so beautiful
So beautiful……
Life is still so beautiful

Thankful prayers at the dinner table

Never taking them for granted

Cinnamon Whisky - Zane Nordin
- This song is about a guy blaming a girl as he explains to his band mate that he slept with her, too. Whisky's no good for you, Cinnamon makes it not taste so bad. ;) I'm trying to sing louder and clearer, it's a challenge.

Pt 1/Intro (spoken)
"Hey, Bud. I need to talk to you 'bout that girl you've been with."
"I know you really dig her, man, but she ain't no good for you, I'm just sayin'"
"We've seen her kind before, man, she's just using you. She Don't Love You ..."
"She's nothing but Cinnamon Whisky!"
-
Pt 2/Lowdown (vocalized)
-
She's Cinnamon Whisky
Red Velvet Sin
She's Cold Southern Comfort
Or London Dry Gin
Blue Moons over Bombay
She's Absolut, Malibu
But She's still Cinnamon Whisky
She Don't Love You
-
Her favorite restaurant
A table for two
Out on a veranda
With a romantic view
Order Cinnamon Whisky
She'll give you her time
But, when the check comes around
Keep this in mind
She's Cinnamon Whisky
She's Red Velvet Sin
She's Cold Southern Comfort
London Dry Gin
Blue Moon over Bombay
She's Absolut, Malibu
But She's still Cinnamon Whisky
She Don't Love You
-
Pt 3/Conclusion
-
Cinnamon Whisky is the Dangerous Kind
She's A Dynamite Number and
She Blows your ... mind
Cinnamon Whisky is a red HOT! time - that's true (You know it's true)
But She's just a Cinnamon Whisky
She Don't Love You!
She's just a Cinnamon Whisky
That girl is Cinnamon Whisky &
We BOTH drank Cinnamon Whisky.
(Spoken) "Sorry 'bout that, man."

Turn it into a Song
Linda Daline Limbaugh aka Chirin 2021

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again
If you didn’t get what you need, think about what went wrong
If you still have no idea, and your brain’s like cheese in a tortilla,
Then turn it into a song

In the first verse, you might be angry
In the second, you’ll blame and shame
In the chorus, you’ll dig deeper
Finding some truth in the refrain

In the bridge comes transformation
In the next verse, you’ll be seeing light
Back to the chorus, you’ll better understand
And find what you can do to make things right

CHORUS

Line by line, you journey to your heart
That's been severed from thinking too hard
Fasten your seatbelt, you'll be traveling far
Word by word, you'll make it home where you belong

BRIDGE
There's nothing that can feel too sad
Nothing can happen that's too bad
Even if it hasn't healed with time
It can be made better by adding a little rhythm and rhyme

CHORUS
Just turn it into a song

Addiciton Jay Harris

Damn this addiction, man I can’t quit. It haunts every waking moment and I’m at my wits.
Like some sinister compulsion, I must give in, and when I do the guilt that I despise comes rushing in.
Damn this addition.

Booze and sex and drugs and pills, you name it I’ll confess, and why my mind can’t let it go is the worst addiction yet..
When the truth is laid out plain as day what I face if I don’t quit, I turn around for one more round, convinced I can handle it, mmm addiction.

I’m tired of thought that I can’t bear, secrets I can’t share, and honesty eludes me showing all I just don’t care.
What a life what a waste, denying all that I can’t face, convinced everyone around me has the problem, I’m OK, mmm addiction.

But when I close my eyes, lay down in my grave, I’m sure that folks will sit around and discus if I’d been saved.
Will my mind finally rest, will I pass life's final test, or will I crave the life I used to live even though my souls been blessed, mmm addiction

Damn this addiction, there must be someway out, but how can I admit it all to a power that I doubt.
But then who am I to question things that I don’t understand, so I’ll surrender now, and turn around, and pray someone takes my hand, damn this addiction.
I’ve Been There

July

Cheryl Cawood

2021

Long sleeves, 90 degrees, so no one sees
Tracks, bruises, no excuses, my reality
I’ve been there Oh O Oh
Yeah I’ve been there Oh O Oh

I robbed, I stole, lost everybody’s trust
My love didn’t seem, to mean too friggin’ much
I’ve been there Oh O Oh
Yeah, I’ve been there Oh O Oh

I’ve been where, both kind of scars collide
In despair, from scars on my arms
And the ones I hide inside
Yeah, I’ve been there, Oh O Oh
I’ve been there

I could end it all, have one more before I fall
Mama worries, waiting for that call
She’s been there Oh O Oh
Yeah, She’s been there Oh O Oh

I tried to numb the pain
I found a better way
Now I’m living in a normal brain

Solo

Finding redemption, one day at a time
Don’t need to hide, what’s buried deep inside
I’ve been there, Oh O Oh
Yeah, I’ve been there

I’ve been where both kinds of scars collide
In despair, from scars on my arms
And the ones I hide inside
I’ve been there, Oh O Oh
Ya know I’ve been there

Yeah I’ve been there
I’ve been there

Yellow Wildflowers

July

Eli Moore

2021

[Verse]
Yellow wildflowers in a field where we laid
where we made love the first time
and laughed at cloud shapes
Beneath the live oak where we carved
a heart and our vows
There we swore to each other
Forever somehow

[Chorus]
Then there was fall and there was spring, there were fires in between
But the yellow wildflowers are our memories
oh-oh-oh
The yellow wildflowers are our memories

[Verse]
She was born in autumn and we named her Layne
she had my heartbeat
and she had your face
Her blues eyes 'gainst the yellow shone bright in the sun
and we called her our flower and
we knew we were done

[Chorus]
Then there was fall and there was spring, there were fires in between
But the yellow wildflowers are our memories
oh-oh-oh
The yellow wildflowers are our memories

[Verse]
the winds from the outside blew down through the hills
and ignited a wildfire
that tested our will
it took with it the live oak, it burned our heart to the ground
but in the spring wildflowers
came back around

[Outro]
Cause there was fall and there was spring, there were fires in between
But the yellow wildflowers are our memories
oh-oh-oh
The yellow wildflowers are our memories
Oh, you're a wildflower in my memory

Borders by Anna Beavers 2021

My name is Don Carlos, I live in South Texas
Not far from the river where the migrants cross over
My wife Carlita takes care of our children
I work every day for the Border Patrol

There’s no where to put them
No room for their children
I fill out the forms
Then send them away
Late in the evening
I pray with my daughter
There but for fortune we stand in their place

CHORUS1
Te amo, mija
I love you so
Te amo, mija
Your life gives me hope.

My name is Felipe from near Guatemala
I worked in the fields on my grandfather’s farm
First we grew coffee, then came the red poppies
Now there is nothing just hunger and crime

I held my son close
We walked across mountains
Now I stand by the river
At the side of the road
I hear my son crying
As I cross back over
And he walks away with the border patrol

CHORUS 2
Te amo, mijo
I love you so
Te amo, mijo
Your life gives me hope.

Les amamos, nuestros hijos
We love you so
Les amamos, nuestros hijos
Your lives are our hope.

Save Me
Melanie Broussard

This song is very much a work in progress. Ideas about a bridge, chorus, or any other suggestions are appreciated. This is indeed a tiny little song.

Save me…
From the insanity
As I pull that thread
Unravelling everything I believe in
I’m drowning in dread

Save me…
I give the mirror the third degree
And question why
Did you walk out that door
Leaving me no time to reply

Save me…
Bring me back safely
From misery
When the journey’s complete
Then I can finally rest easy.

Save me…
I give the mirror the third degree
Until answers appear
Leave it alone
Are the only words that I can hear

Save me…
‘TiI can finally see
Myself there
Smiling back and living
With a heart in good repair

Can’t get a good night’s rest without you by my side
The tossing and turning they never seem to end
Go to work, come back home, it starts all over again

Chorus
And I can’t go on like this
Ever since you left
My heart’s been a mess
I can’t go on like this
I can’t go on like this

V2

Now I’m completely lost like a puppy on the street
I’m hoping you’ll show me the way back to your heart
One word from you is all I need to keep me from falling apart

Chorus
Cuz I can’t go on like this
Ever since you left
My heart’s been a mess
I can’t go on like this
I can’t go on like this

Sorry for all I’ve put you through
I’ve learned my lesson well
I’d rather have you here in my life
Without you it’s a livin’ hell

A nervous grandfather; tugs at his collar
A fresh bouquet clutched in his hand
Eight yellow roses because he knows
It’s her favorite color, she said
A box with pink ribbons, he plans to give
To his daughter’s, daughter - that’s right
He’s got a date with an Eight Year-Old-Lady tonight

She picks cheeses to put on her pizza
From the waiter in a tux and a tie
White table linen and silver beginnings
Ginger Ale in crystal on ice.
He sits amazed with a long loving gaze
At the lady as she takes a bite
He’s on a date with an Eight Year-Old-Lady tonight

C> It’s a family tradition, he’s a man on a mission
Since her mother had only turned five
He’s on a date with an Eight Year-Old-Lady tonight (They’ll celebrate on every birthday)

She takes his hand at the ice cream stand
She points at the toys in the shops
He winks with a grin as he slips her a ten and
They laugh ‘till the carousel stops
She’s feeling cold; lays her head on his shoulder
They waltz home 'neath the moonlight
He’s on a date with an Eight Year-Old-Lady tonight

B> One day she’ll grow up and she’ll turn away
And make a new kind of life
He’ll reminisce of the girl that he misses
The one he’s admiring tonight

Lyric changes; removed “just” from V1 line 1; removed “that” and “is” from V2 line 4; sang first chorus differently; removed “backdrop” from V2; changed line 2 of chorus to remove “door” reference and clear up confusion as to why chair is moving away from the door, is his wife behind the door, etc. :) I appreciate everyone’s input.

V1
Looking for a life, like my dad and mom had
A quiet little place, where the weather’s not too bad
Just some room to grow, away from the city flow
Where the air smells clean, and the birds say hello

Ch1
I want to scoot that rocking chair
Across the porch, to view the vast outdoors
And not worry about anything anymore

Fiddle solo (instrumental bridge)

V2

And some rustling leaves, blown by mountain air

Across the porch, to view the vast outdoors
And not worry about anything anymore

Simple is the wind in a sail Simple is a hammer and a nail
An early morning walk along a lakes edge, a lullaby sung at the side of a bed
Coffee on the stove while it’s dark sitting in the shade in a park
Dancing on a porch to a radio, two chairs side by side gently rocking slow

Chorus
Simple’s not hard to find, it’s simply a state of mind
We define our way though the words we say
And find what joy means in simple things

Simple is an old pair of jeans Simple is the hope in a dream
A smile from a child in the morning light the tug of the wind on the string of your kite
A three chord song on an old guitar, the freedom of driving your first car
The gentle sound of a porch swing moving in flight, the flicker of fireflies in moonlight

Chorus
Simple’s not hard to find, it’s simply a state of mind
We define our way through the words we say
And find what joy means in simple things

Bridge
Don’t try too hard to take your journey far
It’s not the length of your line it’s how you spend your time

Chorus
Simple’s not hard to find, it’s simply a state of mind
We define our way through the words we say
And find what joy means in simple things

Weekend in Mexico

July

Paul Boedeker

(V1)
With all the miracles of medicine
At our disposal today
it’s really not fair
any worldly care
should heavily weigh
So I called on my doctor
For a remedy
he scribbled a note
the prescription he wrote,
for my malady

(Chorus)
A weekend in Mexico
Maybe the Playa Del Sol
some sand in your toes
sun on your nose
find a new friend
Day after day
the same old grind
Bound to make a man
lose his mind
there isn’t a pill
cure this ill
like a weekend in Mexico

(V2)
So I did what he told me to
He’s the one been to doctor school
couple fifths of Patron
my very own
a room with a view
Sweet seniorita to hold my hand
What she’s saying I don’t understand
the smile on her face
illuminates
my weekend in Mexico

(Bridge)
I’ve forgotten my problems
Lost all of my blues
the name of this street
the day of the week
I haven’t a clue
Wait, this isn’t my wallet
Don’t recognize these clothes
a weekend in Mexico
anything goes!

(Chorus 2)
A weekend in Mexico
Doctor’s orders, I had to go
sand in my toes
sun on my nose
found me a friend
Day after day
the same old grind
Bound to make a man
lose his mind
there isn’t a pill
cure this ill
like a weekend in Mexico

(Epilogue)
I’m in a hot Mariachi band
my new address is a GMC van
a weekend in Mexico
I’m a brand new man!

Alleluia, Alleluia – three times
They say that God is everywhere,
The universe is one, (so they say, so they say)
God is the earth, God is the sun,
God is part of everyone (So they say, so they say)
People of the world take different paths,
To Find their inner truth, (Yes they do, they do)
Connected to all, loving as one,
Together all renewed, (We are renewed)
Let us hold our hands together,
United all as one,
Loving together, praying together
Our light shines like the sun,
Alleluia, Alleluia, three times
Feel your inner spirit
It lifts you to the sky
People of earth connected by love
Together we will fly
Love and peace, it is the way, Alleluia
Voices united, we have to say, Alleluia
Deeds not creeds must set the stage Alleluia
For the human race to turn the page, Alleluia
We’re all the same why can’t we see,
Hand in hand, just you and me,
We can rise to our dreams,
United in love, how simple it seems,
The dignity and worth of everybody
A community for all
Love each other, respect each other,
Give support if someone falls,
Lost in fear, lost in hate, Alleluia
Tell us why we have to wait, Alleluia
To bring together with love and peace, Alleluia
People of the world, why can’t they see, Alleluia
Now’s the time to rise and say,
We want to live another way,
No more hate, no more war,
Those are things worth striving for,
DON’T YOU KNOW THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING,
WHEN ARE WE TO REACH OUR GOALS?,
WILL THE WORLD AWAKEN TO REALITY?
START IT NOW, SO THE STORY CAN BE TOLD
Alleluia, Alleluia, three times then end

Parade revised 6-23-21

I hit this world, with scream and a yell.
Gonna blaze a trail, change the world, you never can tell.
With those dreams, found a real fine wife. built the house, raised the kids, set for life.
Then drinking days, drove em all way , I’d had enough so I learned to live for just one day.
Yea I got knocked down, lower than I’d been, but I knew right then the time had come to sink or swim.
Now theyr’e back in my life, I pray to stay.
Ain’t no big thang, it was just a little rain on my parade.

Well I knew ole Joe, at the grocery store
He would sack the bags , clean the aisles, just as told
Then a man said hey, boy you eyeing my wife, he came for Joe to hurt him bad with a big ol knife.
Joe was all cut up, nothing he could do, all because he didn’t look much like me or you.
He knows it ain’t right , but hell he’s gonna try. It’s hard for some to see the world through his eyes.
Feels better than most, got it made in the shade.
Ain’t no big thang, it was just a little rain on his parade.

We make plans to lives our lives, most the time it goes just right, but some days you get knocked down and you want to cry.
Hard times are real it’s understood, so we have to find the good, the world has laid right out before our sleepy eyes.

Well they had a little bar, in the neighborhood
It wasn’t much , they made it work, we knew they would.
Then a big storm came, shut em down, not just them but every bar in this big ol town.
Then the sun came out. Was there ever a doubt. They looked up and smiled to God they were still around.

Now they’re doing alright, Better than OK. In fact compared to most they think they got it made.
It was a rocky time, man they were they afraid,
But no big thang , it was just a little rain on their parade.
No big thang , it was just a little rain on their parade.
No big thang, it was just a little rain on their parade.

Maybe if I’d paid attention in geometry
I’d know what the lines and shapes of my life might mean
Maybe if I hadn’t tossed aside those red flags
I’d have fewer scars and I might not feel so sad
No way, no way, no way, no way to know

Maybe if I’d listened to the advice you gave
I’d have fewer regrets I plan on taking to my grave
Maybe if I hadn’t tried to fix everything all on my own
Wouldn’t have sunk so deep and felt so lost and alone
No way, no way, no way, no way to know… I believe

‘m gonna be okay
I’ll find a way
To build a new life out of clay
Devil’s not gonna get his way - No, not today
I draw a line in sand and I say
I’ll see me on the sunny side of gray.

Maybe if I’d signed up for some therapy
Maybe if I’d prayed harder down on both of my knees
Maybe if I had taken more time before deciding
Maybe I’d still be there and wearing your ring
No way, no way, no way to know…

Sitting here in the dark, I dig deep
Deciding what to throw away and what to keep
When pain and darkness is all I see, I can still plant my one tiny mustard seed..
and I believe…

‘m gonna be okay
I’ll find a way
To build a new life out of clay
Devil’s not gonna get his way - No, not today
I draw a line in sand and I say
I'll see me with pain behind me
I'll see me with support beside me
I'll see me grinning widely
I'll see me on the sunny side of gray

Down That White Line
©️2021 Dave Kasprzak

I’ve spent a week in this one room roadside palace
Pitching my lines and rhymes to folks like you
Six long days I’m twelve miles south of Dallas
It’s the only thing I know how to do

Facing this mirror with my bloodshot eyes
Using my time up out here on the road
Knowing this life is only built on lies
Pushing the line just to make my show

Chorus
I’m going down that white line again
Living off my simple rhymes and friends
I’m going down that white line again
I’m burning my soul up till the end

White line demon keeps me on the go
Burning the oil until my lights can’t shine
Tennessee whiskey when I need to go slow
Choking on the line will be my demise

Bridge
I’d quit that line if I thought I could
But I never do the things I should

Repeat Chorus

I’ll be burning my soul…...to my end

V1
Walking home through the park today
I saw a flower stand along the way
Stopped to smell the roses and thought of you
Hope you like these as much as I do

V2
The ruby ones match the lips I wanna kiss
The pink ones are like your fingertips
A yellow one would look good in your hair
Like the one you wore to the Tennessee fair

Chorus 2X
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you
With your beautiful soul
And your heart of gold
(I’m falling in love again)

V3
Remember the day when we first met?
A storm blew through we didn’t expect
A rainbow appeared in the Nashville sky
It must have been a message for you and I

Chorus 2X
I’m falling in love again
With all the colors of you
With your beautiful soul
And your heart of gold

Bridge
Your ruby red lips
Your pink fingertips
Yellow rose in your hair

Perfect Man
Dan DeHart
Sometimes I wonder how to be a perfect man
Life would be easy for a perfect man
A perfect man, it would appear
Would be free from all his fears
There'd be no worries for old Dan
If only I could be a perfect man
=====================
Chorus
I wanna sing like Elvis, look like George Strait
Act like Tom Cruise, do business like Bill Gates
Drive like Jeff Gordon, Golf like Tiger Woods
And Have that Jimmy Buffett state of mind
================
Being a perfect might have it's appeal
But being perfect would not be real
In an imperfect world we live in here
A perfect man would not persevere
=================
Chorus
===================
Bridge
But, one wish I cannot forsake
To live like Buffett, for just one day
==========================
So I guess I'll just have to be me
Not perfect, that’s how it will be
And be happy just like I am
A perfect man would not persevere
A perfect man would not persevere

THE GOLD

verse 1
I played on a lot of diamonds, when I was a younger man.
I wore cleats beneath my feet, a leather glove holding my hand.
We never won any trophies, except for just the one.
That golden cup that I held up in the sweet late summer sun.

chorus
It was Thompson at shortstop, Brunick at first.
At second, Bear Branaugh, at third it was Durst.
Gibbs, Ford, and Rogers, left, center, and right.
Squatting back of the plate, the great Nathan Albright.
And I was here in the middle, on this simple dirt mound,
Looking t’ward home from this high sacred ground,
With the crowd going wild. Oh, that feeling will never get old.
I have stood here before. This is where we won the gold.

verse 2
We used to play out in Rapid City, then we’d play back in Sioux Falls.
Yankton, Huron, and Mitchell – swinging bats and catching balls.
Down the highway in that school bus, not quite boys and not yet men.
Playing baseball in those days that I would love to live again.

chorus
bridge
Now the metal gate is rusted. The grass is overgrown.
The last runner has touched the bases. The last fast ball has been thrown.
But one memory is left here, and it will never die.
The day we played our best, we passed the test,
The day I held that trophy high!

Verse 1

I can see all the things you mean to me
I can see everything you want me to be
But ‘til you see that I need you to love me
I guess we’ll be no more than friends

Chorus 1

And I can see you and me, in a better place we’ll be
If you can just truly love me
And I can see you and me together for eternity
If you could realize, right now
That’s not what I can see

Instrumental solo

Verse 2

I can see you want to stay fancy free
And not hook up with someone like me
But it will take your love to get me on one knee
I can see all the ways the two of us could be one

Chorus 2

So can you see through me? I don’t want to be set free
My love is deep for you, and yours is not for me
And can you see, that we have to face reality
We have different views of what love should be
Right now, that’s what I see

I Didn't Lose You

I been trapped by the same four walls for quite a while
I been drinking like a drain but the damn stuff just won't do
I been writing gratitudes, looking for a smile
Well, I lost my job & my dad, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll, we all had something to lose
But I didn't lose you

I been talking about getting more time for 10 years now
I been sitting 'round 9 months wondering what the hell to do
I been thinking there's more than work and cash and winning
Cause I lost it all this year, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll and we all had something to lose
But I didn't lose you

In '99, we partied all night like the world could end
But in '21 we partied because it didn't
And cause I didn't lose you

I been dreaming about leaving it all for Santa Fe
Buy a little mud house with floors made of maple wood
Sit with the mountains and talk about our old life
And how I lost it all by choice, but I didn't lose you

This year took a toll and we all had something to lose
This year took a toll on us all but we made it through
And I didn't lose you
And I didn't lose you

I been trapped by the same four walls for quite a while
I been drinking like a drain but the damn stuff just won't do

When I die, bury me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
Cover my bones so they can sleep
There for all eternity

For god’s sake, forget this sinner’s soul

Please don’t say no prayer for me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
And don’t carve no stone for all to see
Because I won’t ever rest in peace

For god’s sake, forget this sinner’s soul

I never meant to do you wrong
Yes, I swear upon this song
If I ever caused you pain
I promise it will never happen again

[Instrumental]

For god’s sake, for god’s sake…

When I die, bury me
Underneath the sinner’s tree
Cover my bones so they can sleep
There for all eternity

“ANGELS OF AMERICA”

By Bob Pryor

They protect our country, so far away,
Gone from their families, so we can be safe,
Some never return, their time is gone,
We are so grateful, for what they have done,

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT

Their cost is great, but they never retreat,
Until their job is done, their task is complete,
Never forget who gave it all,
Those angels on our shoulders making sure we don't fall,
Letting us rest in comfort and peace, they stay on the lookout, never to sleep,

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT

Today, we honor those Americans,
Strong and brave,
We pray for their safe and swift return,
Never forget; never forget; never forget;

THE ANGELS OF AMERICA, UNITED IN COURAGE, SHOWING NO FEAR,
PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS, NEVER A DOUBT,
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT
KNOWING WHAT THEIR JOB IS REALLY ABOUT...

She Burns Me Down

May

Andrew Fischer

2021

Once again here we are
In the smoke at the bar
And the silence is killing me
So I drink and regret
Though I’d rather forget
You’re so cold now — it burns me

I’d do anything
You want me to
To turn it back
And make it new
Oh no, there’s nothing left to say

Oh she burns me
She burns me down

So close and so far
And just stay where you are
We both know it’s all over now
Don’t look, I won’t look
And don’t talk, I won’t talk
We’re unknown to each other now

I’d do anything
You want me to
To turn it back
And make it new
Oh no, there’s nothing left to say

Oh she burns me
She burns me down

It’s time to walk away — but don’t go
There’s half a life to stay — if you say so

I’d do anything
You want me to
To turn it back
And make it new
Oh no, there’s nothing left to say

Things My Momma Saved © Ray Wyatt/ Paul Boedeker

There comes a time in every life when things come to an end
And they pack up your belongings and they pass them to a friend
Or maybe to your children if they haven’t misbehaved
Here are some of the many things that my Momma saved

A pair of wooden castanets, a sterling silver set
Never moved from the piano or graced a table yet
Pictures from vacation all bound up in a book
Hidden on a closet shelf without a second look

A bottle of French Champaign she kept under the sink
For just the right occasion that she never got to drink
A box of costume jewelry she treasured more that gold
That never saw the light of day, once she’s gotten old.

C>Among the ancient keepsakes, she kept close to her heart
Stacks of faded photographs with which she’d never part
Of all the precious treasures and sacred memories (Pause)
(Of all the dust and clutter that she had to stumble through)
The most important thing I think, my Momma saved was me (you)

A hundred pieces of Tupperware without their matching tops
A random set of jelly jars to measure out her shots
A million tangled hangers, and an Elvis TV tray
Little scraps of Christmas wrap too nice to throw away

B>Saved me from the clutches of the Harris County jail
Dragged me down to rehab when I stumbled for a spell
Handed me a Bible so my foolish eyes could see
My wasted, worthless life was still worth saving

So, one day you find yourself saddled with this chore
Consider it a blessing; nothing less and nothing more
With all the dust and clutter that you have to stumble through
The most important thing you’ll see your Momma saved was you.

Verse 1
You walked into my life when I needed someone
I came unraveled and I thought I was done
We were lovers you and me
I thought for eternity
But then you wanted to leave

Chorus
I just couldn’t say goodbye
I didn’t hide the tears in my eyes
I’d move mountains
For your love
Because I was your guy

Verse 2
You stayed and we started a tight-knit family
A boy and a girl, we were as happy as could be
She went off to college
He went off to war
And we cried as they walked out the door

Chorus 2
We just couldn’t say goodbye
We didn’t hide the tears in our eyes
We forced a smile
As they drove away
Thinkin’ they’d be back one day

Bridge
After the kids left, we were all alone
Our love aged like fine wine
Then we got the news no one wants to hear
One of us would be left behind

Verse 3
The hospital elevator stops on the third floor
I pause as I push open your door
The doctor tells me
That he doesn’t see
How you can live one day more

Chorus 3
I just can’t say goodbye
I can’t hide the tears in my eyes
There’ll never be
Another love for me
I’ll forever be your guy

Last Landfall
Dan DeHart 2021

V1
When all my sailing days are over and I’ve made my last landfall
Give me a house overlooking the sea to watch the tides rise and fall.
I will contemplate my life’s adventures; some were big and some were small
Some I still want to remember, some I’d rather not recall.
==================
Chorus 1
I have been to London so many times, I have strolled the Champs-Elysees
I’ve roamed the streets of Moscow and sailed San Francisco Bay
And many Indonesian Islands and port of Saint -Tropez
And lots of places in between, I’ve had to pleasure to stay
=====================
V2
My life has been that of a rambler, never liked to stay too long
Some people just want serenity, I just wanted to be gone
So many wonderful people to meet and so many places to see
I’ve crossed so many oceans, big and small, in my life on the sea
==================
Chorus 2
I’ve climbed Mount Fuji for sunrise and sailed Norwegian Fjords
I’ve been to most Caribbean islands, to Yemen and Hawaiian shores
The French Riviera, and the north of Scotland and up to Tokyo Bay
And lots of places in between, I’ve had to pleasure to stay
=================
Bridge
When I say I’ve been to 49 counties and asked which I liked best
I know it’s not a country, but Texas beats all the rest.
===================
So give my home high on a hill that faces out to sea
And when I die, bury me there, that’s where I want to be
So I can hear those sea gulls crying, crying out to me.
And hear the foghorns of many ships, returning from the sea
Facing out to the deep blue sea for eternity

I remember you told me / one day you’d leave me
If I didn’t change

Every time you said it / didn’t believe you really meant it
I’m so ashamed

Chorus
Here I am all alone inside this house
Like the lights in the hall I’m burning out
And the colors on the wall keep me feeling blue
Here I am… lost without you

V2
You did the best that you could; / can you forgive me for all I’ve done
To cause you pain

Though I’ll never deserve it, / I’m hoping you’ll come back to find that I’m
A better man

I came to a stop sign drove right through it

wasn’t thinking clearly my mind was on you

didn’t see the cars but their horns blew

it is so amazing what love can do

what love can do

I was at a crossroad in my life

do I make up or start a new life

I was confused I couldn’t see the light

all of this happened after a fight

I left the house all up tight

how was it anyone’s fault if we both were right

what love can do

I was at a crossroad in my life

do I make up or start a new life

just like that intersection I should have stopped

I kept running my mouth trash talking a lot

she told me to leave on the dot

and don’t come back until you think things out

I was at a crossroad in my life

do I make up or start a new life

I drove around thinking all night

had to clear my head before daylight

do I give it all up after a fight

do I change my ways and make it right

I was at a crossroad in my life

what love can do

do I make up or start a new life

the crossroad of love you can’t take it light

do I move do I stay do I fight

life to short to live in strife

I went back home I saw the light

GOODWILL SHOES

intro (scat)

verse 1
I was standin’ on the corner with a cardboard sign,
Tryin’ just to find a helpin’ hand.
My shoes so full of holes, and the weather turnin’ cold,
My feet are like to freeze right where I stand.
Then a woman passed and handed me five dollars.
I said “Thank you and God bless” as she drove away.
Took these feet to the Goodwill Store. Now they won’t be cold no more.
Bought some new old shoes and had enough to pay!

chorus
Now look who’s wearin’ these Goodwill shoes.
We’ve both seen better days and paid our dues.
And I just can’t help but wonder whoooose they used to be.
Now it’s me who’s wearin’ these Goodwill shoes.
(scat)

verse 2
Maybe they belonged to someone rich and famous,
And that good luck will rub off on me. Who knows?
Maybe Mister Howard Hughes was the one who wore these shoes,
And tucked hundred dollar bills into the toes.
Maybe they belonged to a scientific genius
With his head in the clouds, my shoes upon his feet.
We might win the Nobel Prize, ’cuz his feet are just my size.
We could walk together down on Easy Street.

chorus
bridge
Maybe they belonged to a doctor or a lawyer,
Or the editor of a big city Tribune.
Maybe they were bought by a famous astronaut
To wear on feet that walked upon the moon.

WHAT MAKES A MAN A FOOL

My eyes they were the first to pay
The first to lead my heart astray
On that sunny dark September day

She was lost so deep in thought,
Along the riverside she walked
I knew I should have never looked her way

Now my heart is doin time
For the the crimes my eyes design
I gave her all I had I gave my all

I knew that all she was was bad
But what a time a night we had
Before my heart it went a took the fall

(chorus)
What makes a man do fool things
What makes a man a fool
What makes a man do fool things
What makes a man a fool

My lips they echoed coy replies
All so shallow none too wise
On that sunny dark September day

I never guessed one could arrest
Nor break or fool, dupe or mess
A heart astute and sensible as mine

(chorus)

It's a tragedy despair
That men don't learn nor seem to care
But from today I think i've found a way

From today I got a rule
To stop myself from bein' a fool
I'm never goin' out September days

THE DREAM WAS LOVE

By Bob Pryor

What was really my dream,
I thought I knew,
From the time I could sing a tune,
I thought it would come true,

I was gonna be a big star,
I’d be known, far and wide,
The dream was so close to me,
I could feel it deep inside,

THE DREAM WAS LOVE, I COULDN’T SEE THE SIGNS,
ALL I COULD FEEL WAS WHAT I THOUGHT I’D LEFT BEHIND,
MY SPIRIT WAS GROWING, THIS I COULDN’T SEE,
THE CHANGES TAKING PLACE DEEP INSIDE OF ME,

As years passed by, life got in the way,
Dreams I held close, began to fade away,
Why was I driven, by things that could not be,
Things that hid my vision, made it hard to see,
My life was meant, to mean so much more,
Then melodies and rhymes,

THE DREAM WAS LOVE, I COULDN’T SEE THE SIGNS,
ALL I COULD FEEL WAS WHAT I THOUGHT I’D LEFT BEHIND,
MY SPIRIT WAS GROWING, THIS I COULDN’T SEE,
THE CHANGES TAKING PLACE DEEP INSIDE OF ME,

What is the path my dreams are meant to take?
When will I know, what is to be my place, in this world………..

Instrumental Break

Older and wiser, I look back and think,
It was always meant to be,
To share what I’ve felt, tell other souls,
That someday they too will see,
The fabric of dreams winds through life like a thread,
Its meaning not clear until it is read,

THE DREAM WAS LOVE, I COULDN’T SEE THE SIGNS
ALL I COULD FEEL WAS WHAT I THOUGHT I’D LEFT BEHIND,
MY SPIRIT WAS GROWING, THIS I COULDN’T SEE,
THE CHANGES TAKING PLACE DEEP INSIDE OF ME, DEEP INSIDE OF ME…

Pushing at the super sonic speed
I can see what I need

Soaring faster and higher
breaking through I believe in me

[Verse 1]

We find limits when we’re young
Slowing down before we’ve begun

They told me that I was too small
and that I didn’t look like them at all

Somehow, I found my way
It takes more effort every single day

Where can I find the strength in me
To break my boundaries and make me see

[Chorus]

[Instrumental break]

[Verse 2]
Get a job and find a life
Listen to eve-ry-ones Advice
They tell me I’m too old to change
and that I don’t Think like them

I know my own way
Working hard I will have a say
Where can I find the strength in me
To break my boundaries and make me see

Bring some love along the way
Keep my humble mind in play
Boundary layers are just a test, they
Give the strength to be my best

Create my limits on my own
Choices are my cornerstone
Boundary layers are just a test, they
Give the strength to be my best

Make my world a lifted way
Strive for that every day
Boundary layers are just a test, they

ONE MORE DAY
WORDS AND MUSIC BY DAVID & KELLY HANSHAW ©2021

WE MARRIED YOUNG AND WE BUILT THIS HOUSE
OUR CHILDREN GREW NOW WE’RE ALONE
WE FOUGHT FOR LOVE WE WOULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT
HEARTS AGAINST THE WIND, STRUGGLE MADE US STRONG

FOR ONE MORE DAY OF QUIET CONVERSATION
ONE MORE DAY OF ROLLIN’ WITH THE FLOW
WITH EACH SUNRISE, A NEW BORN DEDICATION
WE EMBRACE ANTICIPATION OF ONE MORE DAY

20 YEARS WENT BY, WHEN DOCTORS CAME
WITH NEWS THAT ONE WOULD SOON BE GONE
TALKING ‘BOUT HOW LITTLE TIME REMAINS
DRAWING FROM THE WELL OF WILL TO CARRY ON

FOR ONE MORE DAY OF QUIET CONTEMPLATION
ONE MORE DAY OF LEARNING TO LET GO
WITH EACH SUNRISE, TWO HEARTS SLOWLY BREAKIN’
WE EMBRACE ANTICIPATION OF ONE MORE DAY

WORRYING ABOUT THE THINGS WE NEED TO DO
ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS YOU, AND

ONE MORE DAY OF QUIET CONVERSATION
ONE MORE DAY OF ROLLIN’ WITH THE FLOW
WITH EACH SUNRISE, A NEW BORN DEDICATION
WE EMBRACE ANTICIPATION OF ONE MORE DAY

Bullet In A Gun

Ron Rost and Mike Hayes

2021

This is a song based on how my friend Mike Hayes told me he was feeling after his wife left him taking their children. I was around him during this time and never realized he was as down as he recently told me and as he and I wrote in this song.
Bullet In A Gun is his story using lines and words for our conversations, written down, modified, tweaked, elaborated on by both Mike and I until it met with his satisfaction.
--------------------------------------------------

4/16/21 Thanks for the input and suggestions. I talk to Mike see what he thinks and want to do.
I'm sure my tempo will change over time as I get use to paying this tune.
Side not: I played this song for a Grammy nominated and Multi hit Nashville songwriter a few weeks back and he really liked it and told me my word play and selection was awesome on this one and the others I played for him. It's good to hear that from someone that successful. and to know I'm on the right track.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
4/27/21 I have been playing this song during the last several show and it has naturally slowed a bit from the first recording. uploaded the most recent alteration.

Regarding resolving the topic with the listener by stating that there will be no follow-through was discussed during the initial writing but we decided to leave it open and unresolved. Last line of the 3rd verse indicates that the trigger was pulled but there was no shell in the chamber. Instead of a crack there was a clack. Not all songs need a happy ending in my opinion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bullet In A Gun

In so deep, can barely catch my breath
Mind so weak, sinking to the depths
Is there no piece, left of me that’s brave?
Battling beasts, pull me to the grave

Chorus
A bottle pours out, a forty-four raised
Liquor and lead, a perilous game
Lingering doubt, nowhere to run
A bottle pours out, a bullet in a gun

Can’t find sleep, a chaos pro and con
Devil drink, carry me to dawn
Tragic think, grinds me night and day
Poisoning, any hope that might remain

Chorus

Bridge
Lost my kids, lost my wife, lost my will, lost my pride
Kitchen table Russian roulette, laid out choices I have left

instrumental break

Cylinder spins, a revolving fate
tempts me in, to the final escape
Jigger of Jack, trigger pulls back
Shot for a shot, ready or not, empty chamber goes clack

Bridge

Chorus x 2 then

outro
Lingering doubt, nowhere to run
A bottle pours out, a bullet in a gun
A bottle pours out, a bullet in a gun
A bottle pours out, a bullet in a gun

"LaughingStock"- Jim Gill

I've got a sense of humor I think it's plain to see,
And I think that the Lord's the one
that put that sense in me.
and I been one of God's laughingstock
since the day that I was born
and you can't muzzle this ox
as he treadeth out the corn.

1. Where was Solomon's temple?
Right above his ear!
Delilah defeated Samson,
because her strength was shear
Zacchaeus went out on a limb,
because he was too short!
and Joseph played a lot of tennis,
when he served in Pharaoh's court!

God has a sense of humor, it can be plainly seen
If you've ever seen a platypus,
then you know what I mean.
And I been one of God's laughingstock
Since the day that I was born and
You can't muzzle this ox,
as he treadeth out the corn.

2. Daniel had his lions' share of problems.
But an angel came along and shut their snoots.
Adam's first fight with Eve was when he caught her,
makin' a salad out of his best Sunday suit.
Pharaoh's daughter drew a prophet
from a bulrush on the bank,
saved Moses' account from termination.
Noah was the best broker
cause he floated his stock
while the world was in liquidation.

oh yes I've got of humor, it can be plainly seen,
and if you've ever seen an elephant
then you now what I mean
and I been one of God's laughingstock
since the day that I was born.
and you can't muzzle this ox as he treadeth out the corn.

3. .Jonah went a little overboard
a whale taxied him to shore,
and proved, "You can't keep a good man down."
Joshua rode a motorcycle,
cause his Triumph was heard throughout the town.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,
had a great fire insurance plan.,
And when Jesus cast the demons
into the herd of swine,
It was the first case of deviled ham!

O yes God has a sense of humor, it can be plainly seen,
and if you've ever looked in the mirror,
then I think you know what I mean,
and I been one of God's laughingstock
since the day that I was born
Cause you can't muzzle this ox,
as he treadeth out the corn.
NO! you can't muzzle the ox,
as she treadeth out the corn.
The Girl with the Tattoo on Her Ankle

The Girl with the Tattoo on Her Ankle ©Raymond Wyatt

The girl with a tattoo on her ankle is waving at me from the door
I saw her blink when I gave her a wink I think maybe I met her before
She’s a dance floor beauty, good thing she’s not choosy
And I hope that she’s taken with me
But the girl with the tattoo on her ankle
Might not recognize what she sees

The girl with the Tattoo on her ankle is drinking a tonic and gin
I told her a whopper, but that didn’t stop her from flashing an unamused grin
I asked a question, I made a suggestion
She didn’t hesitate to say yes
So the girl with the tattoo on her ankle, Liked my offer I guess

C>Girls like this are so hard to resist
Now, I understand
The Girl with the tattoo on her ankle (She’ll always have ink on her ankle)
Is smiling and holding my hand (And she’ll always be holding my hand)

The girl with the tattoo on her ankle is dancing with me with a smile
She is so graceful her steps are so tasteful and my stumbling feet are so vile
She says I’m and keeper, a romantic sleeper
And exactly what she’s looking for
So, the girl with the tattoo on her ankle is waltzing with me to the door

B> Do you really think that a little blue ink of a mouse or a cute butterfly
Could stir up a feeling and keep me from stealing a peek at here pretty bare thigh?

So, if you have a tattoo on your ankle, or your back or your bottom or chin
Don’t let the fanatics with rocks in their attics tell you what to do with your skin
Because I have a lady who’s ankle is shady
Now I think you might understand
She’ll always have ink on her ankle and she’ll always be holding my hand
At The Roadhouse

V1:
The neon lights lured me in,
Then I heard a voice ask, where you been?
Ice cold beer and whiskey shots,
Ring that bell and the house is bought.

V2:
Boots and heels shuffle across the floor,
They take a pause for another pour.
Music and laughter fill the air.
One more shot and no one cares.

Chorus:
Down at the roadhouse, out on Dallas St.
Is the best brew in Texas,
and the band don't miss a beat.
Down at 8th Wonder, where the Beatles stand tall,
Memories are made, as we escape it all.

V3
Told myself don't be out late again,
But here I am having fun with friends.
Where the beer is cold, and the food divine.
They feed your body, your soul, your mind.

Betty Sue

Coming down from the mountains to the bright lights of the city ,population 295
There’s a dance hall there and a girl that I think’s pretty. Named Bety Sue McEntyre

Got my blue suit on, got my hair combed back, got my shoes buffed up I’m looking fine.
Got a sweet smelling flower from a meadow in the mountains, gonna go and try and make that ol gal mine.
As I walked through door there she sat across the dance floor
Looking like, some angel from above.
In her white cotton dress and ribbons in her do, lord above I’d have to say you did real fine.

Betty Sue, oh can I sit beside you.
Betty Sue, oh can I hold your hand
Betty Sue, oh lord I think your pretty
Betty Sue won’t you let me be your man.

Lead break
So we danced all night to the sound of that ol fiddle and we gazed into each others eyes.
She told me I like you and I kind of think your handsome , man o man the fireworks went off in my mind.
Well the time flew by like a fast train off to nowhere, taking me and Betty for a ride
I know this night will end, but not without me knowing
We’ be leaving with each other on our minds.

Betty Sue, oh can I sit beside you.
Betty Sue, oh can I hold your hand
Betty Sue, oh lord I think your pretty
Betty Sue won’t you let me be your man.

Repeat chorus

Betty Sue won’t you let me be your man.
Betty Sue I’m so glad to be your man.

Great Big Orange Canoe

A turtle on a log, a tree frog, an old brown dog
And me and you,
We’re here together, makes no matter whether
Skies are cloudy or blue
Drop on by, don’t be shy, we’ll go try
The great big orange canoe.

Old Mr Ant and a million ant cousins
Tell you that the work is never done
Ask Mr Lizard, multi-color wizard
Darting in and out of the sun
He will say it’s a perfect day slip away
In the great big orange canoe

Day or night, black or white,
Purple polka-dotted or pink,
Wall or door, ceiling or floor,
Depends an awful lot on how you think.
Laugh or cry, low or high, it’s you who fly
The great big orange canoe.
Build a Bridge

I have been traveling for the last two weeks, and arrived back at my home with not enough time to consider or effect any revisions to the lyrics. I appreciate all the comments; if the song is "released" subsequent to the HSA critiques, I will consider the changes that have been suggested. Note: the rushed lyrics, in places, were intentional; trying to get out of my somewhat "metric" lyrical structure that I often use.

-------------------

Verse 1
The bike parade passes down the street
A little girl watches from her seat
She’s not allowed in it, it’s understood
One of her arms doesn’t work so good
And it wouldn’t be safe for her to compete

Chorus
Build a bridge across the canyon
Knock down obstacles ‘till none of them are standin’
Build a bridge that goes from here to there
Make sure to build a good foundation
Add some rails to help the migration
From where you were, to where you’ll be
With a bridge like that, you can find a way
To get to tomorrow from today

Verse 2
Student Council is having their election
A shy young boy fears rejection
He can’t think of the right words to say
He doesn’t know how to find a way
To compete against the other candidates’ perfection

Chorus 2

Bridge
The little girl got on her bike
And practiced every day
One day she could steadily ride
The little boy faced his fears
And soon they went away
He had found his confidence inside

Chorus 3
They built a bridge across the canyon
They knocked down obstacles ‘till none of them were standin’
They built a bridge that went from here to there
They made sure to build a good foundation
And added some rails to help the migration
From where they were, to where they would be
With a bridge like that, they found a way
To get from yesterday to today
Black Hills Gold

Dave Kasprzak

In the Black Hills of Dakota on a cold and moonless night
You can hear the cries of seven men when the wind blows just right
Who for a chance at gold and fame their fortune they did seek
They set their camp, struck their claim on the banks of Spearfish Creek

It was 1833 the rush had not come on
No white man had walked the land the seven seemed alone

But there were eyes watching hidden and unknown
Hearts and hands determined to protect their Black Hills home
Their ponies disappeared on this cold and moonless night
The seven never heard a sound and were filled with dread and fright

To make their escape they started at a run
They had to flee from Spearfish, the ponies had their guns

With nothing to protect them no weapons for the fight
The Dakota natives caught them it was a bloody and brutal sight
All of them were killed save only just the one
Ezra Kind told their tale when he carved it into stone

Fifty years later their story could be told
When the stone was found and their tale began to unfold

Young Louis Thoen discovered the tale of woe
While on a quest for his fame and for the Black Hills gold

Some say it’s all a myth some say that it’s true
But the seven were never seen again of that you can be sure
The seven were never seen again of that you can be sure…..

In the Black Hills of Dakota on a cold and moonless night
You can hear the cries of seven men when the wind blows just right

Sneaking In My Dreams

V1
I woke up in the middle of the night wondering where I was
Seemed like I had been dreaming when we were in love
A midnight drive, a moonlit sky, a couple of teens in school
Took a leap of faith, dove right in breaking our daddies’ rules

Chorus 1
Why are you sneaking in my dreams?
Bringing back those memories
Sneaking in my dreams
You’re sneaking in my dreams
Are you reaching out to me?
You’re sneaking in my dreams

V3
Flash backs of warm white sand on a beach in Cayman Isles
Sipping wine from a champagne glass wearing honeymoon smiles
A brand-new house, expensive cars, a couple of kids for us
Till you took them away from me, threw me under the bus

Chorus 2
So why are you sneaking in my dreams?
Footloose and fancy free
Sneaking in my dreams
You’re sneaking in my dreams
When you said goodbye to me
You’re sneaking in my dreams

Music Break

Bridge
After all this time have you changed your mind?
I’d really like to know

Out Chorus (3X)
Why are you sneaking in my dreams?
Do you wanna come back to me?
Or is it my own fantasy

Sneaking in my dreams
Or is it my own fantasy
Sneaking in my dreams

SOLILOQUY OF LIFE

© Robert M. Pryor 2021

It seems like only yesterday,
I was a little boy,
Running and playing,
Without a care in the world,

Life without worry,
Full of fun and games,
Always had Mom and Dad
To fetch me out of the rain,

As I grew into a man,
My life started to change,
At first I didn't understand,
But now I do,

Things turned from clear to gray,
The path was no longer easy to find,
Temptations all around,
Bad choices bring you pain,

The soliloquy of life,
Writes a clear view of the future,
Our destinies are written,

All we have to is live in joy,

(Musical Interlude)

Now I can see it,
Now I can feel it,
The soliloquy of life is written,
By me, by me, by me...
The Palm Reader

She was dressed like a gypsy
From some foreign land
And she asked for the palm
The palm of my hand

So I gave it to her
What else could I do?
And I waited to hear
To hear something true

She looked at my hand
And whispered to me
Oh now that’s something
I’ve never seen…

The signs say you don’t believe in the lie anymore

There were beads in her hair
And she wore many rings
And the gems of her eyes
Have seen many things

And the lines of her mouth
Froze for a while
Somewhere in between
A scowl and a smile

She shook her head
And winced up at me
That’s when she said
How can this be…?

The signs say you don’t believe in the lie anymore

Haven’t you heard?
We’re all supposed to believe
The old lie is true
And nobody knows what it means
Haven’t you heard?
We’re all supposed to pretend
The old lie is true
And everyone knows how it ends
We all know how it ends…

The signs say you don’t believe in the lie anymore
